Parking in Lagos costs €0.80 an hour at the covered Anel Verde car park from October to May and €1.00 from June to September, with a daily maximum of €8 or €10. Frente Ribeirinha by the river charges €1.00 to €1.30 an hour, street zones €0.65 to €0.85, and free unpaved lots on the east bank by the marina are a short walk over the footbridge. Do you need a car in Lagos? Not for the old town, the marina and the nearby beaches, which are all walkable. For Sagres, the west coast beaches, Silves or Monchique, yes. All public paid parking in Lagos is run by Lagos em Forma, the municipal company that took over parking management from the Câmara Municipal de Lagos in 2015. It operates two covered car parks, Anel Verde / Praça d’Armas and Frente Ribeirinha, and 377 paid street spaces in four zones (A, B, C and D) along Avenida dos Descobrimentos. Prices change twice a year: low season runs from 1 October to 31 May and high season from 1 June to 30 September. Everything is charged in 15-minute fractions.

386 spaces on three floors on the western edge of the old town, by Estrada da Ponta da Piedade, about five minutes’ walk from the centre. €0.80 an hour in low season and €1.00 in high season, with a daily maximum of €8 and €10. Good base for the old town and for Praia da Batata, Pinhão and Dona Ana. Lagos em Forma car parks.
445 spaces on two floors under the riverfront, by the Mercado Municipal on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, open 24 hours. €1.00 an hour in low season and €1.30 in high season, with a daily maximum of €10 and €13. Market customers get the first hour free during market hours if they show a receipt stamped by the council desk in the market. Lagos em Forma is renovating the roof of this car park, so expect some disruption.
The paid street zones are all on or next to Avenida dos Descobrimentos, the riverfront road: zone A runs along the avenue, B covers the stretches at its eastern end, C is a small bay at the western end by the fort, and D is a day car park on the avenue between the Hotel Marina Rio and the Capitania (harbour master). Lagos em Forma does not publish the paid hours of zones A, B and C online, so check the meter or the sign before you leave the car. You can pay at the meters or with the Via Verde Estacionar app, which covers the Avenida dos Descobrimentos zones.
There is no official free municipal car park in the centre, but free spaces do exist a short walk away. These are unmarked, unsupervised surface lots, mapped as free on OpenStreetMap; the council publishes no capacity figures for them.

At the beaches south of town (Batata, Pinhão, Dona Ana, Camilo) parking is limited to small lots and the roadside, and in July and August they fill early in the morning. The council is rebuilding the Ponta da Piedade road so that the last stretch to the lighthouse is reserved for service and emergency vehicles; park in the lots further back and walk. In summer the municipal A Onda town bus is an easy alternative to driving to the beaches.
