APARC Inspira Santa Marta is a small underground hotel garage on Rua de Santa Marta, central Lisbon — 24/7 access, around EUR 1.50/h or EUR 18/day (USD 1.65 or 19.50), with 80 to 120 spaces and direct access to the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel. It sits 8 minutes' walk from Marquês de Pombal metro and 12 minutes from Avenida da Liberdade — useful as a base for the central Lisbon trifecta of Bairro Alto, Avenidas Novas and Restauradores. The garage is private (operated by APARC Estacionamentos for the hotel), accepts non-guests on a daily/hourly basis, and runs about 30 percent cheaper than walking up to Saba Picoas Plaza nearby. This guide covers the layout, height limits, payment methods, comparisons against Saba Picoas Plaza and EMEL Anjos, the Lisbon LEZ camera situation (no impact for modern rentals), and how to reserve in advance.

Understanding parking zones near Santa Marta

Santa Marta sits in the heart of central Lisbon between Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade. EMEL on-street parking around the area is mostly red zone (centre tariff). The 2024 Lisbon LEZ camera-checks the historic centre — modern rental cars (Euro 5+) clear it without issue. Driving in is technically allowed but parking is tight; private garages like APARC Inspira are easier than fighting for street spots.

Common trap: The “APARC” prefix in Portugal is a generic operator brand used by multiple independent garages. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is specifically the hotel garage on Rua de Santa Marta; do not confuse with APARC Saldanha or other APARC-branded lots elsewhere in Lisbon. The Google Maps pin “APARC Inspira Santa Marta” is the correct one.

Open 24/7 with vehicle entry via Rua de Santa Marta. Vehicle classes: cars (1.95 m height limit), motorcycles in shared bays. The Inspira Santa Marta Hotel guests get integrated billing; non-guests pay at exit by card or cash.

APARC Inspira Santa Marta vs alternatives

Five practical options in central Lisbon. APARC Inspira Santa Marta leads on cheapest indoor central; others lead on different criteria.

APARC Inspira Santa MartaCheapest indoor central

Underground hotel garage with around 120 spaces, 24/7 access, and the lowest day rate among central Lisbon indoor options (EUR 18 walk-in, around EUR 12 reserved). Eight minutes walk to Marquês de Pombal metro, 12 minutes to Avenida da Liberdade. Indoor security cameras. Best for solo travellers, couples, and overnight visitors who want to leave the car safely.

Saba Picoas PlazaLargest central

Saba's central garage at Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, near Marquês de Pombal. 600 spaces — six times bigger than APARC Inspira. Closer to Eduardo VII park and the financial district. Pricing slightly higher: around EUR 22 per day walk-in. Better if you need overnight backup space or your group needs multiple cars.

EMEL Anjos (underground)Cheapest underground

Municipal underground garage at Largo do Intendente, around 350 spaces. Closer to Mouraria and Alfama (east-Lisbon) than Santa Marta but still accessible by green-line metro. Around EUR 1 per hour or EUR 14 per day — lowest underground rate near central Lisbon. Useful if your itinerary leans toward Alfama.

Saba Gare do OrienteBest transport hub

Around 1,000 spaces under Oriente intermodal station. EUR 18/day walk-in or EUR 9-12 reserved. Direct metro to Baixa-Chiado in 12 minutes, Aerobus to LIS airport every 20 minutes. Better if you want to combine central Lisbon with onward train trips to Porto or Faro.

Capacity: Saba Gare do Oriente around 1,000 spaces, Saba Picoas Plaza around 600, Park & Ride Pontinha around 800, EMEL Anjos around 350, APARC Inspira Santa Marta around 120 — the smallest of the central options.

Covered + secured: All five are fully covered indoor garages with security cameras. APARC Inspira Santa Marta has the smallest capacity but consistent CCTV coverage and 24/7 staff at the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel reception above. Best for security-conscious travellers.
Book a parking spot in advance: We use Parclick to reserve central Lisbon garages. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is bookable on Parclick — reservation drops the EUR 18 walk-in to EUR 11 to 13 per day. Particularly useful if you travel during peak tourism months (May-Sep).

Free parking near Santa Marta

Free options near Santa Marta are limited because of central Lisbon's red zone. Three reasonable choices.

Marquês de Pombal residential streets

Streets in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood (north of Marquês de Pombal) have white-line free parking with no time limit. Around 8 to 12 minutes' walk back to Santa Marta. Quieter than the Inspira hotel area, often has space when others are full.

Park & Ride Pontinha or Telheiras

Free with a 24-hour or 72-hour Lisboa Card or Carris/Metro day pass. EUR 0.65 per day combined ticket otherwise. Blue-line metro from Pontinha to Marquês de Pombal in 12 minutes; green-line from Telheiras to Marquês in 8 minutes.

EMEL evenings (after 19:00)

EMEL on-street parking around Santa Marta is free between 19:00 and 09:00 the next morning, plus all of Sundays and public holidays. If you arrive in the evening, on-street parking is the cheapest legal option until morning. Re-park before 09:00 on weekday mornings to avoid fines.

Tip: If you arrive on a Sunday or public holiday, EMEL on-street parking is free everywhere — including the streets directly outside APARC Inspira Santa Marta. Why pay EUR 18 indoors? Save the cost for Monday onwards.

Paying for parking (apps and meters)

Lisbon's three big parking apps cover Santa Marta on-street EMEL zones; APARC Inspira Santa Marta accepts cash and card at the exit barrier.

EPark — official EMEL app

EPark is the official Lisbon municipal app for on-street parking. Covers all red, yellow, and green zones around Santa Marta. Lowest service fee (around 5 percent). Lisbon-only — does not work in Porto.

Already have a Via Verde transponder? APARC Inspira Santa Marta does NOT support ViaT plate-recognition (it is a smaller private garage without that integration). Use card or cash at the exit. Larger Saba garages like Picoas Plaza and Gare do Oriente do support ViaT.

Telpark — pan-Iberian alternative

Telpark works in Lisbon and across most Spanish cities. Useful if your trip continues to Madrid, Sevilla or Barcelona. Service fee around 9 percent.

EasyPark — pan-European

EasyPark covers Lisbon plus most major European cities. Best if your road trip continues to France, Italy or Germany. Service fee around 15 percent.

Coin and card meters

EMEL parchimetros take coins (EUR 0.10 to EUR 2) and contactless cards. Print the ticket and place it visibly on the dashboard. Two-hour limit in red zones is enforced — do not buy two consecutive tickets.

Parking by area near Santa Marta

Avenida da Liberdade (12 min walk)

Lisbon's grand central avenue. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is 12 minutes' walk south to Avenida da Liberdade — easier than driving in and finding street parking. The avenue houses major luxury hotels (Tivoli, Heritage Avenida Liberdade) and high-end retail. Walk down for shopping, walk back up for the metro.

Marquês de Pombal and Eduardo VII park (8 min walk)

The roundabout where Avenida da Liberdade meets Eduardo VII park. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is 8 minutes' walk to Marquês de Pombal metro (yellow + blue lines). The park climbs north with views over Lisbon to the Tagus river — best at sunset.

Bairro Alto and Chiado (15 min metro)

Lisbon's evening district. Take the yellow-line metro from Marquês de Pombal one stop to Restauradores or Avenida, then walk up. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is the best central indoor base for evenings out in Bairro Alto — leave the car safely and metro back at any time.

Alfama and Castelo de São Jorge (20 min metro + walk)

Lisbon's medieval Moorish quarter. Take green-line from Marquês de Pombal to Rossio (15 min including change), walk up to Sé and Castelo. Driving into Alfama is technically allowed but the streets are 1.5 m wide — never try it.

Belém (Tower of Belém and Jerónimos, 25 min metro + tram)

The waterfront district. Green-line metro from Marquês to Cais do Sodré (15 min), then tram 15 to Belém (15 min). Or drive (15 min from Santa Marta if traffic permits) and use the EMEL Belém parking. APARC Inspira Santa Marta is acceptable if Belém is just one of many stops; for a Belém-focused day, park elsewhere.

Tourist trap: Some “informal attendants” stand near Rua de Santa Marta at peak hours and offer to “guide” you to the APARC entrance — for a EUR 5 tip. The garage is fully signposted from Rua de Santa Marta and the entry barrier is automatic. Do not pay anyone outside the booth or hotel reception.

Tips

  • Reserve APARC Inspira Santa Marta on Parclick — saves 30-35 percent versus walk-in
  • Verify your car height under 1.95 m before driving in
  • Use APARC Inspira as a base for Bairro Alto evenings — leave car, metro back
  • Park free at EMEL on-street zones in evenings (after 19:00) and Sundays
  • Check Inspira Santa Marta Hotel guests for combined room+parking rates
  • Photograph the dashboard ticket as proof against fine disputes
  • Do not confuse APARC Inspira Santa Marta with other APARC garages elsewhere in Lisbon
  • Do not assume ViaT works at APARC Inspira — it does not
  • Do not pay informal “guides” near Rua de Santa Marta — the entry is automatic
  • Do not park on yellow lines on Rua de Santa Marta — EUR 60 fine
  • Do not exceed 2 hours in EMEL red on-street zones — second ticket invalid
  • Do not leave passports or laptops visible in the car overnight

2026 update

APARC Inspira Santa Marta added contactless card payment at the exit barrier in early 2026 (cash still accepted). Day rate held steady at EUR 18 walk-in. Parclick reservation rate dropped slightly to EUR 11-13 per day. The Lisbon LEZ camera coverage expanded slightly in late 2025 but does not affect Santa Marta — the LEZ does not cross north of the historic centre. Inspira Santa Marta Hotel relaunched its parking-included room rate in March 2026 (EUR 12 effective day cost when parking is bundled with a EUR 130+ room).

Frequently asked questions

No, the garage accepts non-guests on a daily and hourly basis. Hotel guests get integrated billing through their room; non-guests pay at the exit barrier with card or cash. The walk-in rate is around EUR 18 per day; reserved on Parclick it drops to EUR 11 to 13. Hotel guests can sometimes negotiate a combined room+parking rate at booking.

APARC Inspira is smaller (around 120 spaces vs 600), cheaper (EUR 18/day vs EUR 22/day walk-in) and slightly closer to Avenida da Liberdade. Saba Picoas Plaza has more capacity, ViaT plate-recognition, and a corporate operator's reservation system. Pick APARC for cost; pick Saba Picoas for capacity and ViaT.

Yes, available on Parclick. Reservation drops the EUR 18 walk-in to EUR 11-13 per day. Book at least 24 hours in advance for guaranteed space; book 1-2 weeks ahead for May-September peak tourism months. The booking is non-refundable but date-changeable up to 12 hours before arrival.

1.95 m. Most economy and compact rentals fit, mid-size SUVs (Volkswagen Tiguan, Peugeot 3008) usually fine, full-size SUVs (Volkswagen Touareg) and vans do not. If your rental is taller than 1.95 m, switch to Saba Picoas Plaza (2.10 m) or EMEL Anjos (2.00 m).

Yes — fully 24/7 access for both entry and exit. The Inspira Santa Marta Hotel reception above the garage staffs 24 hours, providing on-site security and assistance. Not standard for small private garages but a useful safety bonus here. CCTV throughout.

No — APARC Inspira Santa Marta does not have ViaT plate-recognition. Use card or cash at the exit barrier. If ticketless ViaT entry matters to you, Saba Picoas Plaza, Saba Gare do Oriente and several other corporate-operator garages support it. Most tourists do not need this feature.
