Saba Gare do Oriente sits directly under Lisbon's Oriente intermodal station — the city's biggest transport hub — with around 1,000 spaces, 24/7 access, EUR 1.30/h or EUR 18/day, and immediate connection to red-line metro, every CP train, all Aerobus airport routes and the Vasco da Gama mall. It is the smartest park-and-do-everything-else option in north-east Lisbon: airport reachable in 15 minutes, Baixa-Chiado historic centre in 12 minutes by metro, plus instant access to Parque das Nações leisure area and Oceanário. Reserved on Parclick the EUR 18 day rate drops to EUR 9 to 12. This guide covers the practical layout, height limits, ViaT support, the Lisbon LEZ (no impact for modern rentals), and how Saba Gare do Oriente compares to alternatives like SABA Picoas Plaza, EMEL Anjos and Park & Ride at Pontinha and Telheiras.
Lisbon's central parking system is run by EMEL with colour-coded zones (red, yellow, green) and a EUR 0.80 to EUR 2 hourly rate. Around Oriente / Parque das Nações the on-street parking is mostly metered EMEL zones, plus the Saba and EMEL underground garages. The 2024 Lisbon LEZ camera-checks in the historic centre — modern rental cars (Euro 5+) clear it without issue.
| Zone | Rate (2026) | Hours | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| EMEL red zone (centre) | EUR 1.60-2.00/h (USD 1.74-2.17) | Mon-Fri 09:00-19:00; Sat 09:00-13:00 | 2 h max |
| EMEL yellow zone (Oriente / Anjos) | EUR 1.00-1.20/h (USD 1.08-1.30) | Mon-Fri 09:00-19:00; Sat 09:00-13:00 | 4 h max |
| EMEL green zone | EUR 0.80/h (USD 0.87) | Mon-Fri 09:00-19:00 | Up to 8 h max |
| Saba Gare do Oriente | EUR 1.30/h or EUR 18/day (USD 1.40 or 19.50) | 24/7 | Around 1,000 spaces |
| Lisbon LEZ (city-centre) | — | Mon-Fri 07:00-21:00 | Camera-enforced; modern rentals clear it |
Saba Gare do Oriente is open 24/7 and sits below the station — vehicle entry from Avenida Dom João II. Three vehicle classes: cars (1.95 m height), motorcycles (separate area), and disabled bays. Long-stay rates available for 7+ day bookings.
Five practical options in eastern and central Lisbon. Saba Gare do Oriente leads on transport-hub access; others lead on different criteria.
Around 1,000 spaces directly under Oriente station. Red-line metro to Baixa-Chiado in 12 minutes. CP regional and intercity trains to Faro, Porto, Coimbra. Aerobus to/from Lisbon Airport (LIS) every 20 minutes. Vasco da Gama shopping centre 50 m away, Oceanário 800 m. ViaT transponder support. The smartest base for travellers combining city visits with a regional trip.
Saba's central garage at Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, near Marquês de Pombal. 600 spaces. Closer to Eduardo VII park, Avenida da Liberdade and Bairro Alto than Oriente. Useful if your hotel sits in the Avenidas Novas or Bairro Alto neighbourhoods. Around EUR 1.50 per hour or EUR 22 per day walk-in.
Municipal underground garage at Largo do Intendente. Around 350 spaces. Closer to Mouraria and Alfama than the centre, but with green-line metro to the centre in 5 minutes. Around EUR 1 per hour or EUR 14 per day. Good value if your itinerary leans east-Lisbon.
EMEL park-and-ride at Pontinha metro (blue line). EUR 0.65 per day with a Lisboa Card or 24-hour Andante. Bus and metro from Pontinha to centre in 15 minutes. The cheapest legal parking option in Lisbon if you accept the metro ride. Useful for day-trippers from Sintra or Cascais arriving by car.
EMEL park-and-ride at Telheiras (green line). Same EUR 0.65/day combined ticket. Closer to the airport area than Pontinha. Useful if you arrive from the A8 motorway and want to park north of the centre.
Three reliable free options around Oriente / Parque das Nações. All within walking distance.
Streets in the Olivais and Encarnação neighbourhoods (10 to 15 minutes' walk to Oriente) have white-line free parking with no time limit. Quieter than the Parque das Nações tourist area. Acceptable trade-off if you save EUR 18 versus Saba Gare do Oriente — but factor in the walk and limited night-time security.
Beyond the immediate Vasco da Gama mall area, Avenida do Pacífico has white-line free street parking. Around 50 to 80 spaces. Five to ten minutes' walk to Oriente station. Avoid during major events at Altice Arena (concerts) when the area floods.
Free with a 24-hour or 72-hour Lisboa Card or Carris/Metro day pass. EUR 0.65 per day combined ticket otherwise. Green-line metro to Oriente in 12 minutes. Also reaches central Lisbon in 18 minutes.
Lisbon has the cleanest digital parking system in Portugal. Three apps cover everything from on-street to underground.
EPark is the official Lisbon municipal app, run by EMEL. Covers all on-street red, yellow, and green zones. Lowest service fee (around 5 percent). Lisbon-only — does not work in Porto or other Portuguese cities.
Telpark works in Lisbon and across most Spanish cities. Useful if your trip continues to Madrid, Sevilla or Cadiz. Service fee around 9 percent.
EasyPark covers Lisbon plus most major European cities. Best if your road trip continues to France, Italy or Germany. Service fee around 15 percent.
EMEL parchimetros take coins (EUR 0.10 to EUR 2) and contactless cards. Print the ticket and place it visibly on the dashboard. Two-hour limit in red zones is enforced — do not buy two consecutive tickets.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| EMEL paid hours (Mon-Fri) | 09:00-19:00 |
| EMEL paid hours (Saturday) | 09:00-13:00 |
| Sundays + holidays + evenings | Free |
| Saba Gare do Oriente hours | 24/7 |
| Maximum stay (red zone) | 2 h |
| Maximum stay (yellow / green) | 4-8 h |
| Standard fine | EUR 30 (USD 32.50) |
| Tow + impound | EUR 70 + EUR 12/day storage (USD 76 + 13) |
| LEZ camera fine (centre, non-conformant) | EUR 60-300 (USD 65-326) |
Saba Gare do Oriente is directly underneath. Vasco da Gama mall has its own paid garage (around EUR 1.50/h, free with shopping receipt over EUR 30) but Saba is cheaper for longer stays. Walking from Saba into the mall takes 90 seconds; into Oceanário 10 minutes.
Parque das Nações is the modern post-Expo 98 waterfront with Oceanário, Pavilhão do Conhecimento, cable car (Telecabine), MEO Arena and Casino Lisboa. Saba Gare do Oriente is the obvious base. EMEL on-street parking around the area is mostly green zone (EUR 0.80/h, 8 h max). Useful for a half-day visit.
Saba Gare do Oriente is 7 km from LIS by car. The Aerobus 1 stops at Oriente every 20 minutes during the day, EUR 4 single, journey 22 minutes. The metro red line connects too. Dropping your car at Saba and continuing to LIS is the smartest workflow if returning a rental late at night.
Lisbon's grand central avenue is 12 minutes by red-line metro from Oriente, change at Alameda for the green line. If your dinner reservation is in Bairro Alto and your hotel is at Oriente, the metro is faster than driving and certainly cheaper than re-parking.
Belém is on the western edge of Lisbon, 25 to 30 minutes by car from Oriente in heavy traffic. Better to take the green-line metro from Oriente (1h via two changes) or a EUR 12 ride-hailing trip. For a Belém-focused day, park elsewhere — Saba Gare do Oriente is the wrong base.
Saba Gare do Oriente added a dedicated EV-charging zone in 2026 with 8 fast chargers (50 kW). Long-stay rates dropped 5 percent for 7+ day bookings. The Lisbon LEZ camera coverage expanded slightly in late 2025 but does not affect Saba Gare do Oriente — the LEZ does not extend to Parque das Nações. ViaT integration upgraded to support all major Portuguese rental fleets.
Yes, with a Parclick reservation it is one of Lisbon's best long-term values. Walk-in EUR 18 per day drops to EUR 9-12 reserved. For weekly bookings (7+ days) the day rate falls further to around EUR 8 effective. The 24/7 access, central location and direct airport connection via Aerobus or metro make it the smartest base for a multi-day Lisbon trip.
Yes — it is one of the best off-airport options for Lisbon Airport (LIS). The Aerobus 1 connects Oriente to LIS every 20 minutes (EUR 4 single, 22-minute journey). Total cost for a 5-day trip: EUR 50 reserved Saba parking + EUR 16 round-trip Aerobus = EUR 66, versus EUR 75 to 110 at LIS direct parking. Convenient if you also plan to spend time in central Lisbon.
Cheaper per day (EUR 18 walk-in or EUR 9-12 reserved versus EUR 15 to 22 at LIS Express) but adds a 22-minute Aerobus or metro journey at the start and end. Use Saba Gare do Oriente if you want central Lisbon access during the trip; use LIS direct parking if you only need to drop the car and fly. Both are run by Saba and accept the same payment methods.
Yes — Saba Gare do Oriente limits vehicle height to 1.95 m. Most economy and compact rentals fit, mid-size SUVs are usually fine, but full-size SUVs (Volkswagen Touareg, larger) and vans do not. Length up to 5.5 m is supported. Motorcycles have a separate area. There is no overnight surcharge for any class.
Yes — Saba Gare do Oriente accepts the Via Verde / ViaT transponder for ticketless entry and exit. Plate-recognition opens the barrier and bills your linked card automatically. If your rental car already has the toll device for Portuguese motorways, this is the smoothest way to use the garage. Otherwise take a paper ticket.
Yes — fully covered indoor garage with 24/7 security cameras and on-site staff. Around 1,000 spaces. Google Maps reviews give 4.0 to 4.2 out of 5 across thousands of reviews, with positive comments on lighting, cleanliness and ease of access. Standard tourist precautions apply: do not leave valuables visible in the car. The Oriente station above the garage adds extra foot traffic and security presence at all hours.
