A Zona a Traffico Limitato is a camera-enforced limited-traffic zone in most Italian historic centres. Entering without a permit is a fine of ~€80–100 per gate, and in a rental the company adds a fee and forwards it months later. Park outside and walk in.
Take a ticket in a white/blue “Biglietto” lane on entry and pay on exit by cash or card. Avoid the yellow “Telepass” (electronic-only) lanes. Some new roads read your plate and bill the rental.
Non-EU visitors are legally required to carry an IDP alongside their home licence. EU licences are accepted as-is.
