Parking in Naples: ZTL Survival, Brin Garage & Port Tips 2026

The first rule of parking in Naples: don't park in Naples – garage in Naples. The centro storico is wrapped in camera-enforced ZTL zones, street space is a contact sport, and break-ins reward optimism. The good news: Parcheggio Brin by the port charges about €8/day for 800 guarded spaces, ANM's municipal lots start near €1.50/day, and the metro does the rest. Here's the 2026 survival guide.

Driving and parking in a busy Italian city centre
Neapolitan traffic is folklore for a reason – park once, ride the metro, live longer.

The ZTL Reality

Naples' ZTLs (Centro Antico, Tarsia/Pignasecca, Morelli–Filangieri, Chiaia and more) run on cameras with hours that vary by zone – some daytime, some until late. Every gate logs every plate; rental cars get the fine months later with an admin fee on top. If your hotel is inside a ZTL, it can usually register your plate for access – call ahead, don't improvise.

Don't trust “helpful” parking guys. The unofficial parcheggiatori abusivi will wave you into illegal spots for a tip – the tow truck doesn't honour their guarantees. Use barriered, staffed facilities only.

The Brin + Metro Play

Coming off the A3/A1 for a day: exit toward the port, drop the car at Via Brin (€8/day, CCTV, staffed), and you're one Linea 1 metro hop or short tram ride from the centro storico. For Pompeii/Sorrento connections, the Circumvesuviana at Porta Nolana is walkable from Brin. The math: a centre garage costs 3–4× more and adds 40 minutes of traffic.

Ferry to Capri/Ischia? Brin is also the cheap long-stay near Molo Beverello – guarded multi-day parking while you island-hop, at a fraction of port-side garage rates.

If You Must Street-Park

  • Blue lines = paid (meter or app); white = free but rare and resident-contested; yellow = no
  • Leave absolutely nothing visible – not a cable, not a jacket
  • Vomero and Posillipo are calmer hunting grounds than the centre, with funicular/metro links

Frequently Asked Questions

Parcheggio Brin by the port: ~€8/day, 800 guarded spaces, metro/tram into the centre. ANM's peripheral lots are even cheaper (from ~€1.50/day) if you don't mind a longer ride in.

Not without a permit during ZTL hours – cameras enforce automatically. Hotels inside can register guest plates; otherwise park outside and walk or ride in.

For the car, usually; for its contents, no. Empty the cabin completely or pay for a staffed garage – the €8 at Brin is cheap insurance.

Brin (walk/short ride to Molo Beverello) for value, or the port-side garages for proximity at a premium. Book nothing? Arrive 45 minutes early in summer.

For the city itself, no – metro, funiculars and walking win. Rent on the day you leave for Pompeii, the coast or inland; until then, park it or don't have it.
