Naples has several limited traffic zones (ZTL) enforced by cameras, including the Centro Antico, Tarsia–Pignasecca–Dante and Belledonne–Martiri–Poerio in Chiaia. Each zone has its own hours. In the Centro Antico, the Via Duomo, Via Miroballo and Via Santa Sofia gates are active every day from 9:00 to 17:00; the Via del Sole gate runs from 9:00 to 22:00 Monday to Thursday and until 2:00 at night from Friday to Sunday and on holidays.
Driving through an active gate without a permit costs €83 to €332 plus notification costs, and with a hire car the rental company adds its own admin fee. Rental cars cannot get a ZTL permit. If your hotel is inside a ZTL, ask it before arrival whether it can arrange access to its garage; otherwise park outside and walk in. More on how the gates work in our guide to ZTL zones in Italy.
Ferries and hydrofoils leave from Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa. The nearest bookable garage is Garage Turistico on Via De Gasperi, open 24 hours. For a cheaper multi-day stay, Autoparcheggio KING on Via Gianturco is east of the port, near Gianturco station. On the Mergellina seafront, Garage Cava starts at €5 an hour.
Parcheggio Brin, the municipal interchange car park run by ANM near the port, is convenient if you arrive from the motorway or the ring road (tangenziale). ANM does not publish its current Brin rates online, so we cannot confirm a 2026 price – check at the entrance.
The area around Piazza Garibaldi is the practical place to leave a car if you continue by train: QUICK Porta Capuana has a day rate from €22.90 and Parking Rettifilo is a few streets away near Porta Nolana. The Circumvesuviana trains to Pompei Scavi and Sorrento leave from Porta Nolana and Piazza Garibaldi, and Metro Line 1 runs from Garibaldi to Toledo, Dante and Museo.
Blue lines are paid street parking managed by ANM: pay at the meter or with a parking app and check the sign for the hours, which differ by street. ANM does not publish a current tariff page, so trust the meter by your bay. White lines are free but rare and taken by residents; yellow lines are for permit holders only.
There is no free, safe place to leave a car in central Naples. Leave nothing visible in the car – not even a cable or jacket – and for overnight stays pay for a staffed garage.
Do you need a car in Naples? Not for the city: the metro, funiculars and walking are faster than the traffic, and most of the centre is ZTL. A car pays off for Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Caserta or the Campi Flegrei – pick it up on the day you leave the city. On Parclick, Autoparcheggio KING on Via Gianturco (near the port and Gianturco station) starts at €3 for an hour and is open 24 hours. For a full day by the central station, QUICK Porta Capuana starts at €22.90.
Not without a permit while the ZTL is active. The main Centro Antico gates work every day from 9:00 to 17:00, the Via del Sole gate until 22:00 (Mon–Thu) or 2:00 (Fri–Sun). Cameras fine you €83–332 plus costs.
Garage Turistico on Via De Gasperi is the closest bookable garage to Molo Beverello (open 24 hours, from €6 an hour). For longer stays, compare Autoparcheggio KING on Via Gianturco, east of the port.
ANM, which runs the Brin interchange car park near the port, does not publish its current rates online, so we could not confirm a 2026 price. Check the tariff board at the entrance.
For the car itself usually yes, for anything inside it no. Empty the car completely, ignore unofficial attendants and use a staffed garage overnight.
