Pisa’s historic centre is a camera-controlled ZTL, but parking just outside it is straightforward and cheaper than most visitors expect. The city car parks in Via Cammeo and Via Piave, a few minutes from the Leaning Tower, cost €3.50 per hour, and blue-line street bays start at €0.75 per hour and are free on Sundays. This guide lists the official zones, tariffs and car parks and explains how to stay out of the ZTL.

Rebuilt from the official Pisamo tariffs: blue-line zones A1, A2, A3 and B with prices and hours, the city car parks with capacities, accepted apps and ZTL access rules; unverifiable garages, fines and surcharges removed.

Understanding Pisa’s ZTL and Parking Zones

Pisa’s historic centre, on both banks of the Arno, is a limited-traffic zone (ZTL) watched by cameras at every entry point. Visitors park outside it – either in the blue-line zones managed by the city’s mobility company Pisamo or in one of its car parks – and walk in.

Planning your trip — do you need a car?

Tick what applies and we’ll tell you if a rental is worth it.

Do not drive past a ZTL sign: Access is reserved for vehicles whose number plates are registered with Pisamo (residents, deliveries, authorised guests). Cameras record every car that enters, and each unauthorised entry is fined separately; with a rental car the notice reaches you weeks later through the rental company, which adds its own handling fee. If your hotel is inside the ZTL, ask it to register your plate before you arrive.

Street Parking: Blue-Line Zones and Prices

Paid street parking in the city is divided into zone A (with three price bands) and zone B. Charges apply on working days (Monday to Saturday); Sundays and public holidays are free.

Pay at the meter with coins (some meters also take debit cards) or with one of the apps accepted by Pisamo: Telepass, EasyPark, MyCicero, A-Tono, Sunhill or the city’s own ApPisaMobilità. The lower prices printed on the meters are for residents with a PisaPass. On the coast (Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia) separate paid zones operate every day from 1 June to 15 September.

Park and Ride: Via Pietrasantina

The large interchange car park on Via Pietrasantina, north of the centre, is where tourist coaches must check in, and it is also the usual park-and-ride for cars: from there it is roughly a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride to Piazza dei Miracoli. Check the signs at the entrance for the current conditions for cars.

Tip: Arriving from the A12 or the SS1 Aurelia, Via Pietrasantina and Via Cammeo are both reached without crossing the ZTL. Set the sat-nav to the car park, not to “Leaning Tower”.

Free Parking in Pisa

Blue-line bays are free on Sundays and public holidays, after 20:00 on working days, and after 14:00 in zone B. White-line bays, where you find them outside the centre, are free – always read the sign for time limits or street-cleaning days.

Tips for Parking in Pisa

  • Navigate to a named car park outside the ZTL.
  • Have coins or a parking app ready.
  • Use zone A1 or Piazza Andrea del Sarto for longer visits.
  • Staying inside the ZTL? Send your plate to the hotel in advance.
  • Don’t follow the sat-nav past “varco attivo” signs.
  • Don’t leave anything visible in the car near the Tower.
  • Don’t assume the resident price on the meter applies to you.
