Trento is the gateway to the Dolomites and Lake Garda – and an easy city to park in, as long as you stay out of the historic centre, which is a 24/7 ZTL. Blue lines cost €0.50–2.20 per hour (Mon–Sat 08:00–19:30), several city car parks give the first 2 hours free, and two park-and-ride areas are completely free. Parking in Trento is managed by Trentino Mobilità S.p.A. The historic centre is a camera-controlled ZTL that is active around the clock, so the practical approach is simple: park in one of the many city car parks around the centre and walk.

On Saturdays the first 30 minutes on blue lines are free. Sundays and public holidays are free.
Trento has plenty of official car parks within walking distance of the centre – several are cheaper than the blue lines. Live availability is shown on parcheggi.comune.trento.it.
Covered multi-storey next to the Castello del Buonconsiglio, 500 spaces, open 24 hours. Five minutes on foot to Piazza Duomo.
Underground car park south of the centre; first 2 hours free between 07:00 and 20:30, then very cheap. Height limit 1.95 m, no LPG cars.
Private garage with 440 spaces, a short walk from the station and Piazza Dante. Closed on Sundays.
Surface car park by the Santa Chiara park, 10 minutes on foot to the centre.
Car park north of the centre on Via Zambra, handy for the MUSE and Le Albere district.
Underground car park at the MUSE science museum. Height limit 2 m, no LPG cars.
For a few hours: Parcheggio Duomo (first 2 hours free). For a full day near the castle: Autosilo Buonconsiglio (max €20). For the lowest cost: Santa Chiara or Palazzo Onda.
Two large park-and-ride areas are completely free – you only pay for the bus.
780 free spaces on Strada Gardesana, right by the Trento Centro motorway exit, open 24 hours. Bus line N takes you to the centre (ticket required).
Free park-and-ride south of the centre on Via Fersina, with bus connections into town.
Blue lines are free on Sundays and holidays – but the ZTL is still active, so stay outside the historic centre.
Blue lines can be paid at meters or by app – paying by app is slightly cheaper per hour.
Both work on Trento blue lines and let you extend the session remotely. The Autosilo Buonconsiglio also accepts Telepass at the barrier.
Meters accept coins and cards. Check the tariff on the meter – it tells you which of the three zones you are in.

The Trento–Sardagna cable car starts on Lungadige Monte Grappa, a short walk from the station; there is no dedicated car park, so leave the car in town. Monte Bondone is reached by car via the SP85 – check winter-equipment rules from mid-November.

Yes. The ZTL is active 24 hours a day, every day, with 18 camera gates. Hotel guests can get a temporary permit through their hotel.
There are three tariffs: €2.20/hour in the historic centre, €1.20/hour in the intermediate zone and €0.50/hour in the outer zone (slightly less by app), Monday to Saturday 08:00–19:30. Sundays and holidays are free.
Yes. The Ex Zuffo (780 spaces) and Ghiaie park-and-ride areas are free; you only pay for the bus into town. Parcheggio Duomo and Monte Baldo also give the first 2 hours free.
Only in winter: from 1 November to 31 March, on weekdays 07:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:00, diesel cars Euro 0–3 and petrol Euro 0 cannot drive in the city. Most rental cars are much newer.
From 15 November to 15 April you must have winter tyres or carry snow chains on Trentino roads. Ask the rental company when you book.
