Parking at Gare du Nord costs €4.90 for one hour or €45.50 for 24 hours in the official Effia station car park, and street parking in the 10th arrondissement is €6 an hour (€18 for heavy cars and SUVs). Pre-booked garages nearby are cheaper for a full day: Parclick showed Stalingrad – Gare du Nord from €15 for nine hours. Street parking is free only on Sundays and public holidays, not in August. This guide covers the station car park, bookable garages, street rules, the heavy-car tariff and the Crit’Air low-emission zone.
Do you need a car? Not for Paris itself: metro lines 4 and 5 and RER B, D and E all stop at Gare du Nord. A car makes sense for Versailles, Giverny, Champagne or the Normandy coast. RER B runs from Gare du Nord to Charles de Gaulle Airport, where most rental companies have desks: compare prices at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport on DiscoverCars, or read our guide to the best car rental comparison sites.
Gare du Nord is in the 10th arrondissement, which belongs to Paris parking zone 1 (the 1st to 11th arrondissements). You have three choices: the official station car park run by Effia, a bookable garage nearby through Parclick, or a street space. Street parking is the most expensive option for anything over an hour or two, and visitors may not stay longer than six hours in the same space.

The car park under the station is run by Effia, the operator of most French railway car parks. It is covered and takes cars and motorbikes up to 1.90 m. The entrance is at 4 rue de Compiègne; the second access on rue de Maubeuge is closed for works from 28 September to 25 October 2026. The car park is open every day, including public holidays, but no vehicle can enter or leave between 1:00 and 5:00, so plan around late Eurostar or TGV arrivals.
| Duration | Car | Motorbike |
|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | €1.90 | €0.70 |
| 1 hour | €4.90 | €1.70 |
| 3 hours | €13.00 | €4.30 |
| 6 hours | €24.20 | €8.10 |
| 12 hours | €42.00 | €14.00 |
| 24 hours | €45.50 | €16.50 |

Fifteen minutes for €1.90 makes this the simplest place to pick someone up from a train. For a three-day Eurostar trip the drive-up price is €120 (48 hours plus one extra day), so a pre-booked garage nearby usually works out cheaper. Full tariffs: Effia Gare du Nord.
Parclick lists several garages within a few minutes’ walk. Check two things before you book: the height limit and whether the space is guaranteed. At the Indigo car parks a booking does not give entry priority, so on a busy day you may have to wait for a space.
Covered garage at 5 rue d’Abbeville, about three minutes’ walk from the station and close to Poissonnière metro. Open 24 hours; you show your Parclick voucher at reception and receive a ticket. Height depends on the category you book: 1.78 m for a car, 2.20 m for a van, so choose the right category or you may be turned away. Parclick showed prices from €36 for eight hours. See Garage d’Abbeville on Parclick.
Covered Indigo car park beside the station and Lariboisière hospital, about four minutes’ walk. The car entrance is at 1 bis rue Ambroise Paré and entry works by number-plate recognition. Open 24 hours, height limit 1.9 m. Parclick showed prices from €5.08 for one hour, with free cancellation up to one hour before arrival. The space is not guaranteed. See INDIGO Euronord Lariboisière on Parclick.
Covered, guarded garage at 7 boulevard de la Chapelle, between Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. Open 24 hours with a guaranteed space; the listing gives the height limit as 1.85 m in one place and 1.9 m in another, so treat 1.85 m as the safe figure. Parclick showed prices from €15 for nine hours, with free cancellation until 23:59 the day before arrival. See Stalingrad – Gare du Nord on Parclick.
Underground Indigo car park on square Alban Satragne, next to Gare de l’Est and a short walk from Gare du Nord. Open 24 hours, height limit 1.9 m, entry by number-plate recognition. Parclick showed prices from €4.35 for one hour. The space is not guaranteed. See INDIGO Magenta on Parclick, or compare all car parks at Gare de l’Est.
Paris street parking is paid from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 20:00. It is free on Sundays and public holidays. August is not free: the City of Paris states that parking is paid in August too. Visitors in zone 1 pay €6 an hour for the first two hours, and the price rises steeply after that. You may not stay longer than six consecutive hours in the same space.
| Rule | Zone 1 (incl. 10th arrondissement) |
|---|---|
| Paid hours | Monday to Saturday, 9:00–20:00 |
| Free | Sundays and public holidays |
| Standard car, visitor | €6 per hour for the first two hours |
| Heavy car or SUV, visitor | €18 per hour for the first two hours (since 1 October 2024) |
| Maximum stay | 6 consecutive hours in the same space |
| Unpaid or overstayed | Post-parking charge (FPS) equal to the 6-hour tariff; €225 for heavy cars |
Heavy-car tariff. It applies to petrol and hybrid cars weighing over 1,600 kg and to electric cars over 2,000 kg (box G of the registration document). Many rental SUVs and large estates fall into this group. Paris residents with a permit are exempt.
How to pay. Use the street meters (bank card) or the PayByPhone, EasyPark or Indigo Neo apps. Flowbird stopped working for Paris parking on 4 July 2026. Enter your number plate; there is no ticket to leave on the dashboard.
Where it is free. On Sundays and public holidays all paid street spaces are free. There is no free parking around Gare du Nord on other days; the cheapest legal option for a full day is a pre-booked garage.
Paris is inside the Grand Paris low-emission zone (ZFE). On paper, cars rated Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 or unclassified may not drive there from Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 20:00. In December 2025 the Métropole du Grand Paris and the City of Paris confirmed that there would be no fines during 2026, and a national law to scrap the zones was struck down by the Conseil constitutionnel in May 2026, so the rules remain. Every car, including foreign ones, needs a Crit’Air sticker; order it only from the official certificat-air.gouv.fr site. Rental cars from French stations already carry one.
