Colmar uses a four-colour zone system (red, orange, green and resident) with prices climbing toward the historic centre. Most visitors should head straight to the free P+R Bleydorn lot (free shuttle to centre every 12 minutes), or pre-book an underground spot at Mairie or Lacarre via Parclick. Fines for unpaid parking start at €17 / $19 and rise quickly inside the red zone.

How Colmar's parking zones work

Colmar centre is divided into four colour-coded zones. Each colour signals a different rate and maximum stay. Enforcement runs Monday-Saturday 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-19:00. Sundays and French public holidays are free.

ZoneColourHourly rateMax stay
Centre historique (hypercentre)Red€2.50 / $2.7230-60 min

Common trap: the streets right around Place de la Cathédrale and Place Rapp are red zone with a 30-minute max. Even if your meter ticket is valid, exceeding 30 minutes triggers a €17 / $19 fine; second offences in the same day go to €35 / $38.

Petite Venise is fully pedestrian (no vehicle access). The clearest sign is the cobblestones — if the street is cobbled and narrow, do not drive in.

P+R Bleydorn — the free option everyone uses

The smart move for almost every day visitor: park free at P+R Bleydorn (650 spaces) at the northern edge of town and ride the free shuttle “Pass'parc” into the centre. Shuttle runs every 12 minutes from 09:00 to 19:00, journey 5-7 minutes.

Why P+R Bleydorn works

Free parking + free shuttle = nothing to pay all day. The shuttle drops you at Place de la Mairie, 30 seconds from Petite Venise.

When to avoid P+R Bleydorn

During Christmas market weekends (late November to late December), it fills up by 11:00. Arrive earlier or use an underground lot instead.

Local tip: if Bleydorn is full, P+R Centre Hospitalier (also free) is a 10-minute walk from the historic centre. Same idea, no shuttle needed.

How to pay for street parking

Three methods: PayByPhone app (most popular in France), Flowbird (city operator), or the on-street horodateurs (coin meters).

PayByPhone — works in most French cities

Register, link your plate, pay by the minute. Available in English, Spanish, German. Service fee €0.15 / $0.16 per session.

Flowbird

City's own app. No service fee but the interface is in French only.

Horodateurs (parchmeters)

Every block has a meter. Accept coins and contactless cards. Take the printed ticket and place it visibly inside the windshield.

Avoid the dead-meter trap: some meters in red zones display “hors service” on Sundays. Don't assume parking is then free — check the kerb signs and any nearby active meter.

Parking by neighbourhood

Petite Venise

Pedestrian. Park at Mairie or P+R Bleydorn and walk.

Place de la Cathédrale

Red zone (30-min max). Use Lacarre or Mairie instead.

Place Rapp / Marché Couvert

Parking Rapp underground is directly underneath.

Quartier des Tanneurs

Mostly pedestrian. Use Mairie and walk in 4 minutes.

Gare SNCF (train station)

Parking Scheurer-Kestner just opposite. Convenient for short stops.

Watch out: during the Christmas market, freelance “parking attendants” in fluorescent jackets ask for €5 / $5 to “watch” your car on outskirts. They have no authority — pay the meter or park at P+R instead.

Quick tips

  • Use P+R Bleydorn for free parking + free shuttle in season
  • Pre-book Mairie or Lacarre online for 20-30 % off counter
  • Sundays are free in all zones
  • Install PayByPhone before you arrive — easiest pay method
  • Arrive before 11:00 in summer or Christmas market season
  • Don't drive into Petite Venise (cobbled = pedestrian only)
  • Don't ignore the 30-min red zone limit — stacked fines add up
  • Don't park on yellow stripes (residents)
  • Don't trust street “attendants” in unofficial vests
  • Don't park overnight in red / orange — even though enforcement pauses at night, day starts at 09:00

2026 update

From April 2026 Colmar extended PayByPhone to all four zones (previously only red/orange) and added EV charging stations at Parking Mairie and Lacarre. The Pass'parc shuttle from P+R Bleydorn extended its hours to 21:00 during the December Christmas market.
