Street parking in Paris costs €6 an hour in the 1st to 11th arrondissements and €4 in the 12th to 20th in 2026, but only for the first two hours: after that the price climbs, and six hours (the maximum) cost €75 or €50. Parking is paid Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 20:00, August included, and is free on Sundays and public holidays. Cars heavier than 1.6 tonnes (2 tonnes for electric cars) pay three times as much. For a full day, an underground garage is cheaper: the Saemes car park at Quai Branly charges €39.20 for 24 hours.

Paris has two visitor zones. Zone 1 covers the 1st to 11th arrondissements, zone 2 the 12th to 20th. You pay in 15-minute steps, and a visitor may stay at most 6 hours in the same space.

Since 1 October 2024, visitors parking a heavy car on the street pay three times the standard rate: €18 an hour in zone 1 and €12 in zone 2 for the first two hours. It applies to petrol, diesel and hybrid cars with a kerb weight over 1,600 kg and to electric cars over 2,000 kg. That includes many SUVs, large estates and people carriers, rental cars too.

The heavy-car FPS drops by 30% (to €157.50 or €105) if paid within 9 days. Source: City of Paris SUV tariff page. Underground garages charge the same price whatever the weight of your car, so for a heavy car a garage is almost always the better deal.
Arriving on Saturday after 20:00 and leaving before 9:00 on Monday therefore costs nothing on a legal visitor space, whatever the weight of the car.
Use the PayByPhone, EasyPark or Indigo Neo app, or a meter with a chip bank card. Flowbird no longer works in Paris: since 4 July 2026 you can neither pay nor open an account with it for Paris parking. The apps let you extend your time from your phone, up to the 6-hour limit.
Public garages charge per 15 minutes or per hour, with day rates far below 6 hours on the street. Two examples with prices published by the operators:

Most Paris garages have a height limit of about 1.90 m, so check before you enter with a van or a roof box.

Paris lies inside the Greater Paris low-emission zone (ZFE). Every car, French or foreign, needs a Crit’Air sticker to drive there; order it only from the official site, certificat-air.gouv.fr. On paper, Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 and unclassified vehicles are barred on weekdays from 8:00 to 20:00, but according to press reports no fines are being issued in 2026. Rental cars are recent models with a Crit’Air 1 or green sticker.
Do you need a car in Paris? Not inside the city: the metro and RER are faster than driving for almost every trip within the périphérique. A car pays off for Versailles, Giverny, the Loire châteaux or Normandy, and it is easiest to collect it at the airport on your way out.
