All locations

Olbia is Sardinia's main entry point — Costa Smeralda airport, the ferry port to mainland Italy, and the gateway to the island's top beaches. Parking is straightforward: airport garages offer guarded spaces from €2–5/hour with monthly options for residents, town blue lines cost €1.50–2/hr, and the small historic centre has a camera-enforced ZTL with €90–300 fines. This guide covers every parking zone, the best ferry-terminal lots (Grimaldi, GNV, Tirrenia, Moby), parking apps (MooneyGo, ASPO), and how to catch the summer Beaches Express bus to Pittulongu's crystal-clear water.

Understanding Olbia's Parking Zones

Olbia uses painted kerb lines to indicate parking type. The code is the same as most of Sardinia — once you understand it here, it works island-wide.

Line colourMeaningCostHours
BluePaid public parking (Strisce Blu)€1.50–2/hrMon–Sat 08:00–20:00

Pink/redTaxi, disabled, busDo not park
ZTL trap: Olbia's historic centre (Corso Umberto and the pedestrian grid around Piazza Matteotti) is camera-enforced from 10:00–13:00 and 18:00–24:00. Hotels inside can register your plate free, but only if you confirm at check-in — SMS confirmation is not proof.

Blue-line meters run Mon–Sat. Sundays and public holidays are free on blue lines; yellow stays restricted 24/7. August parking enforcement in the town centre is reduced but not suspended — still pay.

Best Parking Lots: Airport, Port, Town

Olbia's three main parking use-cases — flying, ferrying, or sightseeing — each have different best options. Airport and port have dedicated large lots; the town has one main multi-storey and several open-air options.

Olbia Costa Smeralda P1 — Multi-storeyAirport short-stay

Covered garage directly opposite the terminal at Olbia Costa Smeralda (OLB). Best for trips under 6 hours, pickups, or guaranteed cover in winter storms. First hour is pricey; expect €5/hour.

€5/hr · €27/dayAeroporto OLB, 07026
Olbia Airport P3 — Long-termAirport long-stay

Large open-air lot on the north side of the airport, with a 2-minute shuttle to the terminal. Best daily rate inside the airport perimeter, but book online a week ahead in July–August.

Operators like ParkVia, Quick Parking and Parcheggio Aeroporto Olbia charge €6–9/day with a 5-minute shuttle. Book online — drive-in rates are up to 40% higher. Keys stay with you; keys-with-operator valet is optional.

Isola Bianca Port — Grimaldi / GNV / Tirrenia / MobyFerry terminal

Each ferry company has its own marked boarding lane; paid open-air parking sits behind the terminal. If you are a foot passenger or picking someone up, use the long-stay lot 600 m from the terminal at €10/day instead of the €18/day ferry-lane price.

Daily rate comparison

Cheapest overnight at airport: Private operators (from €6/day). Airport P3 long-term: €12/day. Port long-stay: €10/day. Town d'Annunzio: €14/day. For a week at OLB, external operators save €30–€40 versus airport P3.

Covered vs open-air

Sardinian summers are extreme — 38°C plus cars baking in the sun. Covered airport P1 or the d'Annunzio garage is worth the premium for rental cars, where interior heat damages leather and electronics. For ferries or short trips, open-air is fine.

Book a parking spot in advance: We use Parclick to reserve Olbia airport and town lots. Booking saves 20–40% versus drive-in rates, and guarantees a spot during the June–September peak season.

Free Parking in Olbia

Free parking exists but requires walking or shuttle. The best free lots ring the historic centre outside the blue-line zone.

Via Veneto and Via Sangallo

Residential streets north of the Corso with white-line disc parking (1–2 hr max) and long stretches of unmarked free parking. 8 minutes on foot to Piazza Matteotti.

Lungomare Isola Bianca (non-ferry side)

Free along the sea front past the port entrance. Fills by mid-morning in summer. Good shade in the afternoon if you park near the palm row.

Pittulongu beach car park (summer)

Free open-air lots above the beaches. Fills by 09:30 in July–August. Take the ASPO Beaches Express bus from Olbia town instead if you arrive late.

Sunday tip: All blue-line meters are free on Sundays and public holidays. Keep a parking disc on the dash if you park on white lines — the disc rule is enforced year-round.

Paying for Parking: Apps and Meters

Olbia's blue-line meters are mixed — some accept contactless and coins, some coin-only. Two apps dominate Sardinia: pick one before your trip.

MooneyGo (formerly MyCicero)

Works across most of Sardinia including all blue-line zones in Olbia and the ASPO Beaches Express tickets. Registration in 2 minutes, pay by the minute.

App advantage: MooneyGo pushes a 15-minute expiry warning and lets you extend remotely. This is the single most effective way to avoid tourist fines when beach days run long.

EasyPark

Accepted at Olbia blue lines and a second choice if you already use it in mainland Italy. Lower coverage on public transport than MooneyGo.

Coin meters

Still common on side streets. €1 and €2 coins only — meters rarely give change or accept foreign debit cards.

Parking by Neighbourhood

Centro Storico and Corso Umberto

Do not drive inside the ZTL. Park at Parcheggio d'Annunzio and walk — everything in the old town is 5–10 minutes on foot. Hotels inside must register your plate in advance.

Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB)

P1 covered for short stays. P3 long-term with shuttle is the best airport-perimeter option. External operators (Quick Parking, ParkVia, Parcheggio OLB) beat airport rates by €5–8/day if you book online.

Isola Bianca Ferry Port

Each ferry brand (Grimaldi, GNV, Tirrenia, Moby) has its own loading lane. Long-stay open-air lot 600 m from the terminal is €10/day — much better value than the €18 boarding-lane rate for foot passengers.

Beaches (Pittulongu, Porto Rotondo, Cala Brandinchi)

Pittulongu has free public parking that fills early. Porto Rotondo and Cala Brandinchi use paid beach lots (€5–15/day) with local enforcement. Arrive before 09:30 or take the ASPO Beaches Express bus.

Shopping centres (Auchan, Terranova)

Free with customer validation. Walking distance to the Corso is too far — use d'Annunzio for town access.

Unofficial “attendant” scam: At Pittulongu beach in summer, people in yellow vests may try to charge €5–10 for public parking. There is no paid parking at Pittulongu town beach — ignore them and walk to the sand.

Tips for Stress-Free Parking in Olbia

  • Install MooneyGo before arriving — airport Wi-Fi is unreliable for first-time card verification.
  • Book airport long-term parking online — walk-in rates are 30–40% higher in July–August.
  • Ask your hotel to register your plate for the ZTL before arrival.
  • Park before 09:30 at beach lots during summer weekends.
  • Keep €5 in €1/€2 coins for backup meters outside town.
  • Do not park on yellow lines — €41 fine plus tow fee (€130).
  • Do not drive into the Corso Umberto ZTL without a registered plate.
  • Do not pay “beach attendants” in yellow vests at Pittulongu — they are not official.
  • Do not leave valuables visible — Isola Bianca and beach lots have ongoing smash-and-grab issues.

2026 Parking Update

Olbia's comune is rolling out contactless-only payment on new blue-line meters from June 2026, removing coin slots in the Corso Umberto area. Cash payers should switch to the MooneyGo or EasyPark app before travelling. The ASPO Beaches Express bus also becomes fully cashless this summer — buy tickets in the app, not on the bus.

MooneyGo has the widest coverage in Sardinia and also handles ASPO bus tickets. EasyPark is a second choice if you use it elsewhere in Italy. Both let you extend remotely, which prevents overstay fines.
