Parking in Marseille runs on a colour code: the red zone covers the centre (Vieux-Port, Castellane, Préfecture) with a 2h30 cap, orange rings it at 4h30, and yellow marks the periphery. Street parking is paid 9:00–19:00 every day except Sundays and holidays, underground garages by the Vieux-Port cap around €15 a day, and the metro's park-and-ride lots are the budget play. Here's the 2026 guide for France's most chaotic-charming port city.

| Zone | Where | Max stay | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red (rouge) | Vieux-Port, Castellane, Préfecture | 2h30 | Priciest, tightest turnover |
| Orange | Districts around the core | 4h30 | Mid-rate |
| Yellow (jaune) | Urban periphery | 4h30 | Cheapest metered |
| Free windows | Everywhere | – | Evenings after 19:00, Sundays, holidays |
Meters run 9:00–19:00, Monday to Saturday. Overstay or skip payment and you'll get the €17 post-parking fee (FPS) – Marseille's enforcement is brisker than its reputation suggests. Pay at the horodateur or with apps (PayByPhone/Flowbird work citywide), which let you extend remotely from a café terrace.
For a full day around the old port, the underground garages (Vieux-Port/Charles de Gaulle, Hôtel de Ville, Estienne d'Orves) charge about €1.80 for the first hour with daily caps near €15.30 – cheaper than feeding a red-zone meter twice and risking the FPS. From there the Panier, MuCEM and the ferry to the Frioul islands are all on foot.
RTM's parcs relais at metro stations (La Rose, Sainte-Marguerite Dromel, Bougainville and others) are free or near-free with a valid RTM transport pass – park, ride the M1/M2 to Vieux-Port in 10–15 minutes, and skip the centre's traffic entirely. For calanques days, this is also where you dodge the summer road closures.
In summer the roads toward Sormiou, Morgiou and Sugiton close or restrict access – park at Luminy or Les Baumettes and walk/shuttle in. Check the Parc National des Calanques site the day before; towing on the access roads is systematic.
Every evening after 19:00, all day Sunday and on public holidays. Paid hours are 9:00–19:00, Monday to Saturday.
Street bays there are red-zone: 2h30 maximum. For a full day, the underground garages cap around €15.30 – the saner option.
The FPS (forfait post-stationnement) is €17 in the orange and yellow zones – issued quickly, so use the apps to extend remotely.
Yes – RTM's parcs relais at metro termini are free with a transport pass, and the metro reaches Vieux-Port in 10–15 minutes. Best value for a sightseeing day.
In summer the access roads close or restrict to residents; park at Luminy or Les Baumettes and hike or take the shuttle. Check the national park's site before going.
