Street parking in Marseille costs €1.50 for the first hour in 2026 in both tariff zones (orange in the centre, yellow around it), paid Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 19:00; Sundays and public holidays are free. On red short-stay streets you can stay 2 hours 30 minutes at most, on the others 4 hours 30 minutes, and the fine (FPS) is €17. Garages near the Vieux-Port start at about €3.50 an hour on Parclick (Indigo Bourse, Indigo Préfecture), and the metro park-and-ride car parks cost €2.20 a day plus your tickets.

Do you need a car in Marseille? Not for the city: the metro, tram and buses link the Vieux-Port, Saint-Charles station and the beaches, and the centre is congested. A car is worth it for Cassis, Aix-en-Provence, the Luberon or the Camargue. Marseille has two tariff zones: orange for the busy hyper-centre and yellow around it. Separately, each paid street is either a long-stay street (yellow or orange markings, up to 4h30) or a red short-stay street (up to 2h30). A red street charges the tariff of the zone it is in.

Disabled-card holders press the “PMR” button on the nearest meter, enter the number plate and display the original card behind the windscreen. Whatever the zone, you may not leave a car in the same space for more than 24 hours in a row, or it can be towed.
Pay at the meter (horodateur) or in an app: SAGS lists TIMO, PayByPhone, Flowbird and Prestopark. If you do not pay or overstay, you get a post-parking charge (forfait post-stationnement, FPS) of €17 in all zones, minus what you already paid. Example from SAGS: a €2 ticket for a 3-hour stay leads to an FPS of €15. Foreign drivers receive it too; it is paid on the ANTAI website.

Q-Park Vieux Port – Hôtel de Ville is open 24 hours with a 1.9 m height limit, so check it before you drive in with a roof box or a van. For the MuCEM and Les Terrasses du Port, Q-Park Joliette started at €0.90 for 15 minutes.
The RTM park-and-ride car parks (parkings relais) next to metro and tram stations, such as Sainte-Marguerite Dromel, Saint-Just and Rond-Point du Prado, are the cheapest way to leave the car for a sightseeing day (RTM tariffs, checked 26 October 2026):

Example: one person paying by bank card pays €2.20 plus two trips at €1.70, so €5.60 for the day; every passenger needs their own ticket. Staying less than 20 minutes is free. On event days Saint-Just and Sainte-Marguerite Dromel charge a €10 flat rate.
The Marseille ZFE-m applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all vehicles, inside the ring of boulevards around the centre (about 19.5 km², including the Vieux-Port). Today only cars with a Crit’Air 0, 1, 2 or 3 sticker may drive or park on public streets there; Crit’Air 4, 5 and unclassified vehicles are banned. The fine is €68 for cars, including driving without a sticker. The A55 viaduct and the tunnels stay open to all vehicles. Foreign cars need a sticker too: order it only from certificat-air.gouv.fr (Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis ZFE page). In May 2026 the Constitutional Council struck down the article of the simplification law that would have abolished ZFEs, so the zone still applies.
In high season the Calanques National Park limits visitors to Sugiton and Les Pierres Tombées with a free, compulsory booking. In 2026 it applied on 20–21 June, every day from 27 June to 30 August and on 5–6 and 12–13 September; bookings open three days ahead at 9:00 (national park). Car access to the Sormiou and Morgiou roads is set by the city each summer, so check the national park site before you drive out.
