The blue zone in Tarragona costs about €1.15 for an hour and about €4 for the 2-hour maximum, while the municipal car parks are capped at €5.95 a day. Street parking is free on Sundays and public holidays, Parclick car parks start at €1.99 an hour, and the low-emission zone (ZBE) applies on weekdays from 7:00 to 19:00, with foreign cars automatically allowed for up to 12 days a year. This guide covers the zones, the cheapest car parks, free parking and the ZBE rules.
Do you need a car? Not for Tarragona itself: the Part Alta, Rambla Nova, the amphitheatre and the beach are all walkable. A car pays off for PortAventura, the Priorat wine villages, the Cistercian monasteries and the Costa Daurada beaches. The nearest airport is Reus, about 15 minutes away: compare car rental at Reus Airport on DiscoverCars. Flying into Barcelona instead? See our Barcelona car rental guide. Street parking in central Tarragona is run by the municipal company Aparcaments Municipals de Tarragona (AMT). The kerb colour tells you the rules: blue is paid parking for everyone with a 2-hour limit, green and orange are mainly for residents. For anything longer than two hours, use a car park: the city caps the price at €5.95 a day in the car parks it fully manages. Since 31 December 2025 the centre is also a low-emission zone (ZBE) on weekdays.

| Option | Price in 2026 | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Blue zone, 1 hour | €1.15 | Pay at the meter or in the Aparcar app |
| Blue zone, 2 hours (maximum) | About €4 | Overstaying is fined; move to a car park |
| Municipal car parks (AMT) | Maximum €5.95 per day | Saavedra, Rambla Lluís Companys, Avinguda Catalunya, Pere Martell bus station |
| Car parks on Parclick | From €1.99 per hour | Bookable; prices for your dates shown before you pay |
| Streets without coloured lines | Free | Further from Rambla Nova and the Part Alta |
Blue-zone prices are those reported from the municipal ordinance (a 2026 comparison of Spanish cities puts two hours in Tarragona at about €4). AMT’s own website could not be opened when we checked, so confirm the price on the meter. The €5.95 daily cap is published by the City of Tarragona.
| Kerb colour | Who can park | Visitors |
|---|---|---|
| Blue (zona blava) | Everyone | Paid, maximum 2 hours in the same space |
| Green (zona verda) | Mainly residents with a permit | Short paid stays only where the meter allows it |
| Orange (zona taronja) | Residents with a permit | Check the sign; usually not for visitors |
| Yellow line | Nobody (loading or no parking) | Do not park |
| No colour | Everyone | Free, unless a sign says otherwise |
Paid hours are shown on each meter; Sundays and public holidays are free. The 2-hour limit in the blue zone is fixed in the city’s public-space ordinance: you cannot extend it by buying a second ticket for the same space. Fines for overstaying are around €34, halved if you pay quickly (a May 2026 comparison of municipal ordinances lists up to €35).
How to pay. At the kerbside meters, or with the official Aparcar app, which pays by the minute and means you do not need to leave a paper ticket on the dashboard. Set up the app before you arrive, as it needs your plate number.
The City of Tarragona sets a maximum daily price of €5.95 in the car parks fully managed by the municipality. These are the municipal car parks listed by the city:
| Car park | Area | Operator |
|---|---|---|
| Saavedra | Centre, one block from Rambla Nova (AMT head office) | Municipal |
| Rambla Lluís Companys | North of the centre | Municipal |
| Avinguda Catalunya | Next to the Part Alta (old town) | Municipal |
| Francesc Bastos | Centre | Municipal |
| Pere Martell – Bus station | By the bus station, west of the centre | Municipal |
| Plaça Corsini | Mercat Central area | Espimsa (municipal) |
The city lists Rambla Nova – Plaça Imperial Tàrraco and La Pedrera as Telpark car parks, so the €5.95 cap does not apply there; check the price at the entrance. All these car parks are “adhered” to the ZBE, which means a car without an environmental label may park there: list of adhered car parks.

Street parking is free on Sundays and public holidays, and in any street without coloured kerb markings. Unmarked streets are mostly away from Rambla Nova and the old town, so expect a 10 to 20 minute walk. If you need more than two hours in the centre on a weekday, the €5.95 municipal car parks cost less than moving the car between blue-zone spaces.
Tarragona’s ZBE has been in force since 31 December 2025. It applies on weekdays that are not public holidays, from 7:00 to 19:00. Vehicles without a Spanish DGT environmental label (0, ECO, C or B) may not drive or park inside it, except in the adhered car parks listed above.
