Do you need a car? Not for Barakaldo itself or for Bilbao, which you reach in about 15 minutes on Metro Bilbao line 2 or the Renfe commuter trains. A car pays off for the coast at Getxo and Bakio, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe or the Urdaibai reserve. Bilbao Airport is about 15 minutes away: compare car rental at Bilbao Airport on DiscoverCars, or read our guide to car hire in Spain.
Barakaldo controls street parking in the centre and in several districts through the OTA system. In the blue zone anyone can park: 30 minutes cost €0.45 and the tariff runs up to 2 hours. The green zone is for residents with a permit, and some areas have brown-zone spaces with day and half-day tickets. For longer stays, the two municipal car parks at Herriko Plaza and by the law courts (Juzgados) are the central options, and both can be booked on Parclick. Streets without coloured markings are free.

Street prices come from the 2026 annex to Barakaldo’s fiscal ordinance no. 7 (barakaldo.eus, heading H, parking on certain public roads). The 1-hour and 2-hour figures are our calculation from that tariff, rounded to 5 cents. Car park prices are the “from” prices Parclick showed on 28 October 2026.
What parking costs in Barakaldo
OTA tariff 2026 and Parclick prices, 28 October 2026
In the blue zone you pay €0.45 for the first 30 minutes. After that the meter adds €0.05 for every 2.12 minutes, which works out at about €1.15 for an hour and about €2.55 for two hours, where the tariff ends. The green zone is reserved for residents: their permit is free, so as a visitor look for blue markings instead. Brown-zone spaces sell a full-day ticket for €1.65 or a half-day ticket for €1.10, which makes them the cheapest legal option for a long stay where they exist.
The paid hours are set by mayoral decree and are shown on each meter. We could not find a current official timetable on barakaldo.eus, so read the sign on the meter before you leave the car. Stops of under 10 minutes with the driver or an adult passenger inside the car are exempt from the tariff.
The town hall runs two rotation car parks for visitors: Herriko Plaza, under the main square, and Epaitegiak, by the law courts. Both are listed on Parclick, where you can book a space in advance.
Elcano Kalea 1, under Herriko Plaza next to the town hall. On 28 October 2026 Parclick showed prices from €15 for a full day, which suits a day of shopping or meetings in the centre. Book on Parclick.
Gernikako Arbola Etorbidea 3, by the Barakaldo law courts. On 28 October 2026 Parclick showed prices from €4.81 for 2 hours. Book on Parclick.
Yes. Streets without blue, green or brown markings are free, and the OTA zones only cover the centre and some districts. Barakaldo is on Metro Bilbao line 2, and Ansio station, right by the BEC exhibition centre, is one of the network’s park-and-ride car parks. We could not confirm today’s park-and-ride price on an official page, so check the sign at the entrance. On BEC event days the area fills up early, so arrive by metro if you can.
Barakaldo has planned a low-emission zone called the “Zona Centro Ampliada”, covering the centre and the districts of Rontegi, Santa Teresa, Beurko Berria, San Vicente, Zuazo-Arteagabeitia and Lasesarre. According to local press in November 2025, it would operate 24 hours a day and keep out cars with no DGT label or a B label, with first trials expected in mid-2026. On 28 October 2026 we could not confirm on the town hall website that it is in force, so watch for ZBE signs at the edge of the centre. Spanish-registered rental cars carry a DGT label, and most recent ones have a C or ECO label.
