Marbella is Costa del Sol's most expensive resort — and one of the hardest places on the Spanish coast to find affordable parking in July-August. Blue zones run €1.20-1.80/hour, the central covered garages (Puerta del Mar, La Alameda) charge €20-30/day, and Puerto Banús parking spikes to €5/hour in peak season. But there's free parking 10-15 minutes walk from the Old Town and abundant free spots at the beaches east of the centre (Cabopino, Artola). This guide covers the AREA blue zones, central garages, free parking options, the Puerto Banús route, and how to avoid the classic tourist traps.
Marbella uses the Andalusian AREA system with blue and green kerb lines. No camera ZTL but the Casco Antiguo (Old Town) is partly pedestrian.
| Line colour | Meaning | Cost | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | AREA paid parking | €1.20-1.80/hr | Mon-Sat 09:00-14:00 & 17:00-20:00 |
| Green | Marbella residents only | — | Fine for tourists |
| White | Free, disc or time-limited | Free | Max 2 hr |
| Yellow | Loading / buses | — | 24/7 — tow |
Blue-line meters in Marbella use a midday break (siesta). Sunday and public holidays: blue free across all of Marbella. Green lines remain residents-only year-round.
Five options for the Old Town, Casco Antiguo, Puerto Banús and eastern beaches.
Underground garage next to the Casco Antiguo. 3 min walk to Plaza de los Naranjos. Covered, 24/7, cameras. First choice for Old Town visits.
Underground garage under Parque de la Alameda. 5 min walk to the beach and Old Town. Better daily rate than Puerta del Mar.
Outer lot at Puerto Banús, much cheaper than the inner lot at the marina. 5 min walk to the quay. Essential for Banús visits without paying €5/hour.
Large surface lot next to the bus station. 12 min walk to the Old Town. Best budget option with good safety.
Free parking at Cabopino beach, 10 km east of Marbella. Dune beach (only natural dunes on the Costa del Sol). Combine with Artola beach and the boutique port.
Puerta del Mar 4.2★ · La Alameda 4.3★ · Banús Costa 4.0★ · Bus Station 4.1★ · Cabopino 4.6★. Based on 600+ reviews each (April 2026).
Cheapest covered: La Alameda (€18/day) or Bus Station (€12/day, surface). Cheapest free: Cabopino beach. Most central: Puerta del Mar (€22/day). Puerto Banús inner lot avoided — up to €50/day summer weekends.
Marbella summer: 30-35°C. Sun exposure damages rental car interiors fast. Covered (Puerta del Mar, La Alameda) worth the extra €4-6/day. Cabopino beach has natural shade from pines.
Free parking exists but requires walking or heading east to quieter beaches.
White-line 2-hour disc parking in residential streets north of the centre. 12 min walk to the Old Town.
Free all year round. Best beach parking on the Costa del Sol. 10 km east of Marbella centre.
Free street parking west of the centre, 15 min walk to the Old Town or 5 min drive to Puerto Banús.
Two apps cover Marbella.
The dominant Spanish parking app. Works on Marbella AREA zones. Pay by the minute, extend remotely from your phone.
Official Generalitat de Catalunya app. Also works in Marbella. Useful if you're travelling across Spain.
Most Marbella meters accept contactless cards. Keep €3-5 in €1/€2 coins as backup.

Most offer valet parking (€10-20/day). Book lunch and parking is complimentary at some.
Free parking + protected dune beach. Arrive before 11:00 in summer. No tourist restaurants — bring a picnic.
Marbella City Council is extending the AREA zone to include San Pedro Alcántara suburb from June 2026. Puerto Banús marina is testing dynamic pricing for July-August (up to €6/hour at peak). ElParking shows live availability at Puerta del Mar from May 2026.
Parking Puerta del Mar (€22/day) 3 min walk or Parking La Alameda (€18/day) 5 min walk. Both are underground and secure. Sunday: blue-line streets are free — arrive by 09:00 for a spot near Plaza de los Naranjos.
Use the outer Parking Costa lot (€20/day) and walk 5 minutes. Never use the inner marina lot — rates triple in summer (up to €5/hour). Ignore unofficial “attendants” offering spots.
Yes at Cabopino and Artola (10 km east) — free all year, protected dune beach. Central beach (Playa de la Bajadilla, Playa de la Fontanilla) has paid blue zones on adjacent streets.
Yes, all blue-line AREA zones are free on Sundays and public holidays. Green lines remain residents-only year-round. Sunday morning is the best time to park in Plaza de los Naranjos area.
ElParking is the most widely used Spanish parking app. Parkunload (Generalitat de Catalunya) also works in Marbella. Both let you extend remotely.
Yes in covered garages (Puerta del Mar, La Alameda). Blue-line meters have a 4-hour max — needs renewal. White lines limited to 2 hr with disc. Avoid green and yellow lines.
