Street parking in central Málaga costs €1 an hour in the blue zone (SARE), with a maximum of 150 minutes (€2.50). You pay Monday to Friday 9:00–14:00 and 16:00–20:00 and on Saturday mornings; lunchtimes, evenings, Saturday afternoons, Sundays and holidays are free. For longer stays use one of the 12 municipal SMASSA car parks or the Muelle Uno garage on the port, open 24 hours and capped at €30 a day.
Do you need a car in Málaga? Not for the city: the centre, the port and La Malagueta beach are all walkable. A car pays off for Ronda, Nerja, the Caminito del Rey or the white villages. Málaga’s regulated street parking is called SARE and is managed by the municipal company SMASSA. It covers about 4,700 spaces in sectors such as the Centro Histórico, La Malagueta, Puerto, Alameda, Perchel, Huelin, El Palo and the municipal markets.

Pay at the meter (cash, or card where the machine accepts it) or with one of the payment apps shown on the meter. If your payment is not linked to the number plate, leave the ticket visible behind the windscreen. You can extend your time before it runs out, but never beyond 150 minutes.

Space counts and heights from SMASSA’s own car park pages. SMASSA does not publish its hourly rates online, so we do not quote a price: it is shown at each entrance. The official “Aparcamientos Málaga SMASSA” app is available for iOS and Android.
The underground car park at Muelle Uno sits under the port promenade, next to the Centre Pompidou and about a 10-minute walk from La Malagueta beach. It is open 24 hours, every day, has more than 30,000 m² of parking, number-plate recognition and EV chargers. It charges by the minute: one hour comes to about €2.35, each further hour up to 12 hours to about €2.49, and the daily maximum is €30.

Since 30 November 2025 Málaga has fined cars without a DGT environmental label that are not registered in the city when they enter the low-emission zone. On 13 October 2026 the Andalusian High Court (TSJA) ruled that treating cars registered elsewhere differently was discriminatory. According to local press reports of 19 October 2026, the city is not issuing fines at the moment, will refund the fines already paid and plans new rules. The ruling was not yet final at that date.
Foreign-registered cars have no Spanish label, so check the city’s official ZBE information before driving into the centre, and watch for ZBE signs. Leaving the car in a garage at the edge of the centre avoids the question entirely.

You can cancel the penalty by paying €5 within three days (€9 if you had no ticket at all). The police can tow a car without a ticket or one that stays more than three times the time paid.
