Do you need a car? Not inside Granada, where the centre, the Albaicín and the Alhambra are best reached on foot or by the small C30 and C32 buses. Granada has three things a driver needs to know. First, the whole city is a low-emission zone (ZBE), but any car with a Spanish DGT label, which includes almost every rental car, may enter. Second, the historic centre, the Albaicín, Sacromonte and the Realejo are camera-controlled access areas for residents, taxis, buses and authorised vehicles, so do not follow your satnav into them. Third, street parking is the ORA system run by EYSA, with red, blue and green zones that are cheap but limited in time. For a day of sightseeing, use a car park on the edge of the centre or the Alhambra car park, reached from the Ronda Sur ring road.

The Alhambra has its own public car park, guarded and open 24 hours, with room for 360 vehicles according to the Patronato de la Alhambra. Cars park in the P-1 areas, coaches and motorhomes in P-4, and the car park runs up to the Pabellón de Acceso with the ticket offices. It is operated by Indigo (formerly PARKIA), whose page showed an indicative €0.55 for 15 minutes and €2.20 per hour on 19 October 2026; only the rates posted at the entrance are binding. Parclick lists it from €3.34 for one hour. Neither source publishes a daily maximum, so we do not quote one.

All three colours are paid zones open to visitors; they differ in the maximum stay. Pay with coins (the meters do not give change) or in the ElParking, Imbric or Mowiz apps.

Overstayed? If you exceed your time by 30 minutes or less, you can cancel the notice with a special ticket of €3.15 (blue and red) or €3.20 (green); after that, or with no ticket, it costs €6.45 (€6.25 in red), until 23:59 the same day. These figures come from the published ORA tariff as reproduced by zona-azul.es; the official Granada mobility website could not be opened, so check the meter.
The ORA zones are free on Sundays and public holidays, at lunchtime between the morning and afternoon slots, in the evening after the paid hours and on Saturday afternoons. Streets without ORA markings are free, but in the centre they are rare and the Albaicín, Sacromonte and Realejo are closed to visitors’ cars anyway. For a full day the green zone (€1.45 for five hours) or a car park from €17.45 is cheaper than hunting for a free space.
The ZBE has been fully in force since 1 October 2025 and covers about 23.55 km², almost the whole city, with number-plate cameras. It only restricts vehicles that have no DGT environmental label and are not tax-registered in Granada.

Source: Spanish motoring press on the ordinance (Motorpasión, October 2025); some roads leading to car parks on the edge of the city are also excluded from the zone. A municipal report in May 2026 said cars without a label had fallen to about 7 % of traffic.
Separate from the ZBE, Granada controls access to its historic quarters with cameras. In the Albaicín, Sacromonte, the Realejo and several central streets, including Gran Vía de Colón and Reyes Católicos, only residents, taxis, buses and authorised vehicles may drive. If your hotel is inside one of these areas, ask it before arrival whether it can register your number plate. To visit the Albaicín, park in the centre and walk up or take the C32 bus from Plaza Isabel la Católica; for the Alhambra, the C30 and C35 buses leave from the same square.
