Parking in central Motril costs €1.90 to €2.10 an hour in the two covered Indigo car parks (Coronación and Garvayo Dinelli), both open 24 hours. On the street, the ORA zone in the centre is paid on weekdays from 9:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday mornings, so lunchtime, evenings and Sundays are free. This guide covers the car parks, the free options, the low-emission zone and car hire at Granada and Málaga airports.

Do you need a car? For Motril itself, not really: the centre is compact. A car pays off for Granada and the Alhambra (about 66 km), the Alpujarras villages or the beaches along the Costa Tropical. The nearest airport is Granada: compare car rental at Granada Airport on DiscoverCars, or Málaga Airport, which has more flights. See also our car hire in Málaga guide.

Most streets in the town centre are in the ORA regulated zone, which applies on weekdays from 9:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday mornings. Within the ORA zone, parking is free outside the paid hours: at lunchtime (14:00 to 17:00), in the evening after 20:00, on Saturday afternoons and on Sundays. Never pay unofficial parking attendants (gorrillas). The town’s own mobility plan describes them as a problem around the edges of the ORA zone.
Motril has approved a low-emission zone (Zona de Bajas Emisiones) covering the town centre. Under the ordinance, vehicles without a DGT environmental label that are not registered in Motril may still enter for the first three years after it takes effect. Rental cars registered in Spain carry a label. The town has not published a date when fines will start, so check motril.es before a long stay.
Ferries to North Africa and Melilla leave from the Port of Motril, about 3 km south of the centre. We found no official public parking tariff for the port, so ask your ferry company what parking is available before you travel. We could not confirm current parking rules for the beaches (Playa Poniente, Playa Granada) either. Follow the signs on site.
