Do you need a car? For Palencia itself, not really: the centre is compact and walkable. Street parking in central Palencia is run through the ORA scheme. A ticket costs €0.30 for 30 minutes, €0.76 for an hour and €1.72 for two hours, and two hours is the longest you can stay. You only pay on weekdays from 10:00 to 13:30 and 16:30 to 20:00 and on Saturday mornings, so lunchtime, evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sundays are free. For longer stays, use one of the covered car parks in the centre or by the station.

ORA prices come from the city’s fiscal ordinance no. 209 (last amended in December 2024, read on 26 October 2026). Paid hours and the orange-zone limit are as listed by Telpark, whose app you can use to pay. The car park operators do not publish full walk-in tariffs online, so check the board at the entrance.

Palencia’s old town is small and flat. Most sights, including the Cathedral and Calle Mayor, are a short walk from any of these car parks.
Plaza de los Jardinillos, next to Palencia railway station (entrance from Calle Estación del Norte). Open 24 hours, height limit 2.1 m, number-plate recognition at the barrier and charging points for electric cars. Parclick sells pre-booked stays with a guaranteed space. Book Jardinillos on Parclick.
Plaza de los Juzgados, in the city centre. Run by Telpark, which advertises prices “from €1.80” but does not publish its full tariff online. Entry and exit work with number-plate recognition. Telpark Palencia page.
Plaza Pío XII. Open 24 hours, height limit 2.2 m. It is listed on Parclick but cannot be booked there, so just drive in and pay at the machine.
The ORA has two kinds of regulated street space. In the blue zone you can stay up to 2 hours (€1.72). In the orange zone, meant for quick stops, the limit is 1 hour. Buy a ticket at a meter or in the Telpark app; the ticket must show your number plate. The minimum ticket is €0.30 for 30 minutes.
If you overstay, you can cancel the parking notice by paying a post-paid fee: €2.74 if you stayed no more than twice the time you paid for and pay within 30 minutes, or €6.59 if you had no ticket or stayed longer, paid within an hour. After that, the normal fine procedure applies.
Cars with the DGT “0 emisiones” label and vehicles displaying a disabled parking badge (while carrying the holder) do not pay ORA.
Yes. In the ORA zone, parking is free outside the paid hours: from 13:30 to 16:30, after 20:00, on Saturday afternoons and all day on Sundays and public holidays. Streets outside the regulated zone are free at any time, so if you are happy to walk 10 to 15 minutes, leave the car in a residential street outside the centre and check the signs.
Palencia is preparing a low-emission zone (Zona de Bajas Emisiones). The city opened the procedure for the ZBE ordinance on 29 October 2025 and ran a public consultation in January 2026. We found no official notice that access restrictions or fines are in force yet. Rental cars registered in Spain carry a DGT label. Check aytopalencia.es before a long stay.
