All locations

Vigo is Galicia's largest city — Spain's biggest fishing port and the gateway to the Cíes Islands national park. Blue zones (ORA) cost €1-1.20/hour, central covered car parks (Plaza de Compostela, Areal, Príncipe) charge €13-18/day, and there's free parking at Samil beach and the cruise port. This guide covers every painted zone, the best garages near Praza da Constitución and the cruise terminal, the Cíes ferry connection, free parking options, the Pulpo Park app and how to park during the Festas de Vigo (mid-August).

Understanding Vigo Parking Zones

Vigo uses Galicia's ORA system with blue and green kerb lines. No camera ZTL — but the historic Casco Vello is partly pedestrian.

Cruise day trap: When 2+ cruise ships dock at Estación Marítima (50-80 cruise days/year), the entire Areal-Compostela area fills by 10:00. Cars parked on green resident lines get towed at 11:00 to clear space. Use Parking Areal underground if visiting on cruise days.

Blue meters Mon-Sat with siesta break. Sundays and holidays free on blue. Green stays residents-only.

Weather considerations

Galicia rains 150+ days/year. Covered (Plaza de Compostela, Areal, Príncipe) worth the premium for any visit longer than a day. Samil beach exposed.

Book Vigo parking in advance: We use Parclick to reserve Plaza de Compostela and Areal. Essential during Festas de Vigo (mid-August), Reconquista de Vigo (March) and cruise days.

Free Parking in Vigo

Praia de Samil (urban beach)

Vigo's main urban beach — abundant free parking. 10 min from centre by car or bus.

Castro Hill (Parque do Castro)

Free parking at the top of Mount Castro (Castro Park). Panoramic view of Vigo and the bay. 5 min walk down to Casco Vello.

O Calvario (residential east)

White-line free parking with 2-hr disc in residential streets. Bus 12C to centre in 8 min.

Sunday tip: All Vigo blue ORA meters are free on Sundays and holidays. Casco Vello is also less crowded on Sunday mornings — perfect time for tapas hopping.

Paying for Parking: Apps and Meters

ElParking

The dominant Spanish parking app. Works on all Vigo ORA zones. Pay by the minute, extend remotely.

App advantage: ElParking warns 15 min before expiry. Useful during a 2-hr Cíes ferry tour or longer Casco Vello tapas crawl.

Parkunload

Generalitat de Catalunya app, also accepted in Galicia. Useful if travelling across Spain.

Coin / contactless meters

Most Vigo meters take contactless. Keep €3-5 in coins as backup.

Parking by Area

Casco Vello (old town)

Plaza de Compostela or Príncipe. Casco Vello is partly pedestrian — don't try to drive in.

Estación Marítima (Cíes ferry)

Parking Estación Marítima or Areal. Ferries to Cíes Islands run May-September (€18 round-trip, 45 min crossing).

Cruise port (Areal)

Parking Areal closest. Many cruise visitors arrive on foot from the ship — drive only if not on a cruise.

Samil and Vao beaches

Free parking at Samil. For Vao (less crowded), drive 5 min south.

Cangas / Moaña (across the bay)

Day trip via cross-bay ferry from Estación Marítima. Free parking on the other side at Cangas.

“Cruise parking” scam: On cruise days, individuals offer “parking €10/day” near Estación Marítima in private courtyards. Often informal. Stick to Parking Areal (€13/day) — same price with insurance.

Tips for Stress-Free Parking in Vigo

  • For Cíes Islands, park at Areal or Estación Marítima.

  • Avoid green lines — €60 fine + tow.

  • Don't trust “cruise parking” courtyards.
  • Don't drive into Casco Vello — pedestrian.
  • Don't leave valuables visible at Samil — occasional summer break-ins.

2026 Parking Update
