Parking in Huelva: Garages, Blue Zone and Free Spots 2026

Safe & CHeap parking
All locations

Key takeaway: Huelva (south-west Spain, Andalusia) has a compact city centre with strict blue zones around the Plaza de las Monjas and the train station. Street parking costs 0.90–1.30 euros (1.00–1.45 dollars) per hour with a 2-hour cap. The cheapest 24/7 garage option is Saba Muelle de Levante at the marina for 12 euros (13.20 dollars) per day, and free parking is easy to find north of the city near the El Conquero recreational park.

Understanding Huelva's parking zones

Huelva's municipal company Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMTUSA) runs the kerbside system through three colour-coded zones. The historic centre falls under blue zone, the residential rings under green, and weekday loading bays under orange. The white-line zones outside the inner ring road give plentiful free parking.

ZoneWho can parkRate (2026)Max stay
Zona azul (blue)Anyone with a ticket0.90–1.30 euros / hour (1.00–1.45 dollars)2 hours
Zona verde (green)Residents free; visitors pay0.95 euros / hour1 hour for non-residents
Zona naranja (orange, loading)Commercial only Mon-Fri 8-14hn/a30 minutes
White linesFree for allFreeNo limit unless signed
Common trap: EMTUSA wardens patrol the Plaza de las Monjas and Plaza de la Merced every 30 minutes during weekday peaks. The base fine is 40 euros (about 44 dollars) but drops to 20 euros if paid through huelva.es within 20 days.

Blue-zone enforcement runs Monday to Friday 9:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00, plus Saturday 9:00–14:00. Sundays and public holidays are free, except during the August Fiestas Colombinas when the entire centre is restricted to pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

Covered vs open-air

Saba's two underground garages provide covered parking. Apcoa Estación, the Hospital and El Conquero are open-air. In July and August, Huelva temperatures regularly hit 38–42 C – use a windscreen sunshade on the open-air lots.

Fiestas Colombinas (early August)

During the first week of August, the city closes most streets to traffic. Use El Conquero free parking and walk in. Saba garages remain open but charge a 30 % Fiestas surcharge.

Skip the search: reserve a guaranteed spot before driving in, especially during Fiestas Colombinas (early August) or the Romería del Rocío (May/June).

Where to park for free in Huelva

Huelva has more free parking than most Spanish cities its size. Three reliable options sit within 12 minutes walk of the centre.

El Conquero recreational park

The hill overlooking the city has 320 free white-line spaces and a 12-minute walk to the Plaza de las Monjas via the El Conquero stairs. Best free option for visitors – well-lit and safe day or night.

Avenida de Andalucía (north)

The long avenue north of the train station has uncontrolled free parking along its length. 6 minutes walk to the Cathedral. Quieter at night, fills with commuters by 8:30 weekdays.

Tip: the Mercadona supermarket on Avenida de Italia gives 2 hours free parking with any purchase. Combine grocery shopping with a quick centre visit and you save the blue-zone fee.

Polígono Industrial San Diego (east)

Industrial estate with unrestricted free parking near the port. 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes by bus line 1. Empty on weekends, useful for multi-day stays.

Paying for street parking

Huelva accepts three payment methods: orange EMTUSA meters, ApparkB (the cross-Spanish app) and EasyPark. Telpark does not cover Huelva.

ApparkB (recommended)

Free iOS/Android app. Per-minute billing, remote extension, automatic GPS detection. Available in Spanish, English, French, German.

Tip: ApparkB offers a “15-min free start” once per car per day – useful for chemist or quick errand stops.

EasyPark (alternative)

Available in Huelva since 2024. Same per-minute model with 0.15 euros service fee. Good if you already use EasyPark elsewhere in Andalusia.

EMTUSA meters

Orange machines on every block. Accept coins, cards and contactless. Print the ticket and display it visibly on the dashboard. Max 2 hours per session.

Parking by neighbourhood

Centro and Plaza de las Monjas

Strict blue zone Monday to Saturday. Use Saba Plaza de las Monjas or walk in from El Conquero. The Cathedral, Calle Concepción shops and tapas bars are all within 5 minutes walk.

Muelle de Levante (marina) and Punta del Sebo

Tourist zone with the Replica Carabelas museum (Columbus's three ships). Use Saba Muelle de Levante. The promenade has its own free parking but fills in summer afternoons.

Estación de Tren and Avenida de Italia

Train station district. Apcoa Estación for paid, Avenida de Andalucía for free. Mercadona on the same street gives 2-hour free parking with purchase.

El Conquero recreational park

Free hillside parking with city views. Walk down via the El Conquero stairs to the centre in 10 minutes. Best for budget tourists with a half-day visit.

Hospital and Ronda Norte

Hospital Juan Ramón Jiménez parking for patients. Surrounding streets are gold-coloured restricted parking (residents only weekdays). Use the hospital lot.

Watch out: Huelva has no official car-watcher service. Anyone in a high-visibility vest demanding 2-3 euros (2.20-3.30 dollars) to “guard” your car around the train station or marina is informal – politely decline and walk away.

Practical tips for parking in Huelva

  • Download ApparkB before you arrive and link a payment card – the orange meters occasionally jam.
  • Take the A-49 motorway exit 91 (Huelva-Capital) or exit 88 (Huelva-Sur) – sat-nav often routes through Aljaraque on the western side, adding 15 minutes.
  • Combine a day in Huelva with a visit to Doñana National Park (1 h drive south via El Rocío) – park free at the El Acebuche visitor centre.
  • Tapas hour: Plaza de las Monjas garages fill 13:00–15:00 weekdays and 21:00–midnight weekends. Use El Conquero in those windows.
  • From Huelva, day trip to Portugal: 50 km via the A-49 to the Spanish-Portuguese border at Ayamonte, then 15 km more to Monte Gordo (Algarve).
  • Do not leave bags or electronics visible – Huelva had a 9 % rise in vehicle break-ins through summer 2024 per Policía Local data.
  • Do not park in orange “carga y descarga” bays between 8:00 and 14:00 Monday to Friday – the tow truck patrols here daily.
  • Do not assume Sunday is fully free during Fiestas Colombinas (first week of August) – additional restrictions apply.
  • Do not drive into the Cathedral square pedestrian zone – it is camera-monitored with a 200 euros fine.

What's new in 2026

EMTUSA modernised all blue-zone meters to contactless validation in March 2026 – if you pay via ApparkB, the printed ticket is no longer required. Saba added 14 fast EV chargers (CCS, 50 kW) across the Muelle de Levante and Plaza de las Monjas garages, charging 0.42 euros per kWh on top of the parking fee. A Zona de Bajas Emisiones (low-emission zone) for the Cathedral perimeter is in public consultation, expected to launch late 2027.
