Burgos is easy to visit by car as long as you do not try to drive up to the Cathedral. The old town is compact and largely pedestrian, so the usual plan is an underground car park on its edge – APK2 Plaza Mayor can be booked online from €24 per day – or a cheap blue bay for a short stop. This guide covers the car parks, street parking, free options, the low-emission zone (no fines before August 2027) and where to park a motorhome.

✓ UP TO DATELast updated: 8 October 2026
Rewritten from checked sources: the bookable car park with its real address and price, the actual status of the low-emission zone (no fines before 5 August 2027) and the free motorhome area. Car parks, tariffs, fines and app claims that could not be confirmed were removed.

How Parking Works in Burgos

Burgos is compact: the Cathedral, Plaza Mayor, the Arco de Santa María and the riverside Paseo del Espolón are all within a few minutes’ walk of each other, and much of that area is pedestrianised. The practical approach is to leave the car in an underground car park on the edge of the old town, or in a regulated street bay for a short stop, and walk.

The hourly price for the blue zone is the figure published by the Spanish motoring club RACE; Burgos is one of the cheaper Spanish cities for street parking. We could not confirm the current timetable on the city’s website, so read the meter before you walk away.

Low-emission zone (ZBE): Burgos has a low-emission zone in the centre, with number-plate cameras already installed. According to the information published so far, fines will not be issued before 5 August 2027, and for now restrictions apply only during pollution episodes. The planned fine is €200 (€100 if paid early). In practice, a visitor with a rental car has nothing to do today – but the pedestrian streets around the Cathedral are closed to traffic regardless of the ZBE.

Car Parks in Central Burgos

APK2 Plaza MayorBookable online

Covered, monitored car park under the old town with its entrance on Calle de Santander, a couple of minutes on foot from Plaza Mayor and about five minutes from the Cathedral. Open 24 hours, with charging points for electric cars. Maximum height 2.05 m.

Other underground car parks

There are further public underground car parks around the old town, for example at Plaza de España and beside the Museum of Human Evolution on the south bank of the river. They are not bookable on Parclick and we could not verify their current tariffs, so we do not quote prices here: the rates are displayed at the entrance.

Reserve a space in Burgos: on Parclick you can book APK2 Plaza Mayor in advance. Worth doing for Holy Week and for the San Pedro y San Pablo festival at the end of June, when the centre is busiest.

Street Parking

The regulated parking service in Burgos is called ORA. In blue bays you pay at the meter for a limited time; the price is low by Spanish standards (about €0.65 per hour). As in most Spanish cities, the charge normally applies on working days and not on Sundays or public holidays, but the exact hours and the maximum stay vary by street – they are printed on the meter and on the signs.

Tip: for a visit of more than two or three hours, a car park is less stressful than a blue bay with a time limit – the Cathedral alone takes an hour and a half.

Free Parking in Burgos

Outside the regulated area, street parking is free. The further you go from the Cathedral and the river, the easier it gets; allow 15 to 20 minutes on foot. Check the signs for residents’ bays and for the weekly street-cleaning or market restrictions.

Monasterio de las Huelgas and Cartuja de Miraflores

Both monasteries lie outside the centre (Las Huelgas about 1.5 km to the west, the Cartuja about 4 km to the east) and are easiest to reach by car. Visitors normally park beside them without charge; spaces are limited at weekends.

Motorhomes

Burgos has a free municipal motorhome area with 24 spaces and service point, open all year, about 3.5 km from the centre and close to a stop of city bus line 1. Overnight parking in the streets of the old town is not practical: the bays are short and regulated.

Arriving by Train

The railway station, Burgos-Rosa Manzano, is on the north-eastern edge of the city, about 5 km from the Cathedral – too far to walk. Take a city bus or a taxi into the centre.

Tips for Stress-Free Parking in Burgos

  • Head for a car park on the edge of the old town and walk.
  • Read the meter: hours and maximum stay in the blue zone vary by street.
  • Book ahead for Holy Week and the festival at the end of June.
  • Drive to Las Huelgas and the Cartuja de Miraflores – both are outside the centre.
  • Don’t follow your sat nav into the pedestrian streets around the Cathedral.
  • Don’t rely on old advice about the low-emission zone: check the current rules before a trip in 2027 or later.
  • Don’t leave valuables on view in the car.

Disclosure: Auto Jardim participates in the Parclick affiliate programme. When you book a parking spot through our links we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. This article was fact-checked on 8 October 2026 against Parclick (APK2 Plaza Mayor), the blue-zone price table of the Spanish motoring club RACE and published information on the Burgos low-emission zone. We could not consult the city council’s parking pages on that date, so street-parking hours are not quoted: the meter and the signs are what count.
