Safe & CHeap parking
All locations

Parking in Genoa costs €1.10 to €2 an hour on the street and €2 an hour (€2.50 on holidays) in the Porto Antico car parks by the Aquarium, dropping to €1 an hour after 20:00. For a full day, Park+Bus at Dinegro or Pegli costs €10 including an AMT day ticket. The historic centre is a ZTL with 11 camera gates active 24 hours a day, so leave the car outside it. This guide covers the street tariffs, every Porto Antico car park, the free options and Parclick garages near Brignole.

Driving in? Still choosing a car? Our Italy car rental guide compares the local desks and prices – pick the car first, then park it cheaply with the tips below.

✓ UP TO DATELast updated: 19 October 2026
Rechecked all tariffs: Park+Bus is now €10 (not €6), the Pisoni car park has closed and the Fontane Marose ZTL is suspended; removed unverified garage and airport prices and added Parclick garages.

Do you need a car? Not for Genoa itself: the centre is a ZTL and the metro, buses and lifts cover the hills. A car pays off for the Riviera, Portofino and the inland villages. The simplest pick-up is at the airport, west of the centre: compare car rental at Genoa Airport on DiscoverCars, or read our guide to car hire in Italy and the ZTL rules in Italian cities.

How Parking Works in Genoa in 2026

Genoa splits parking between two public operators. Genova Parcheggi, owned by the city, runs the blue street spaces (Blu Area and Isole Azzurre), the ZTL permits and the interchange car parks. Porto Antico di Genova runs the car parks around the Aquarium and the old harbour. Street parking costs €1 to €2 an hour depending on the tariff plan, Porto Antico charges €2 an hour on weekdays, and the medieval centre is a camera-controlled ZTL around the clock.

ZTL: the Historic Centre Is Closed 24 Hours a Day

Important: the ZTL Centro Storico applies every day of the year, 24 hours a day. Eleven camera gates record every plate, and a car that is not on the authorised list is fined later by post, with no officer on the spot.

Permits are only issued for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and 2.10 m wide. Via Cairoli is also a pedestrian zone from 11:30 to 19:00; hotel guests may pass only after the hotel has sent in the plate. Genoa has smaller camera-controlled ZTLs too, at the Molo, Nervi, Boccadasse and Vernazzola, all active 0–24. The weekend ZTL at Fontane Marose is currently suspended.

If your hotel is inside the ZTL, ask it before arrival how it registers your plate. Rental companies pass ZTL fines on to the driver with an admin fee.

Porto Antico Car Parks (Aquarium and Old Harbour)

These five car parks are the obvious choice for the Aquarium, the Bigo and the walk into the old town. All of them use the same tariff, and the Porto Antico website shows live free spaces for each one.

Park+Bus: Interchange Car Parks with Public Transport

For a day in the centre without the ZTL stress, leave the car at an interchange car park and take the metro or bus. At the orange AMT meter choose Park+Bus, type your plate and pay €10: that covers parking until midnight and a day ticket for one person on AMT buses and metro and on Trenitalia trains. If you only want to park, the day rate is €3 until midnight.

Street Parking: Blu Area and Isole Azzurre

Blue spaces cover the central districts. In Blu Area zones visitors pay on every blue space while residents park with a permit; the Isole Azzurre (light-blue spaces near services and sights) are paid for everyone. The main paid period is 8:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, but the sign at each street can set other days or hours.

Plan 1€1.30€1.70€2.00
Plan 2€1.10 (€0.55 for 30 min)€1.40€1.50
Plan 3€1.00€1.00€1.00

Corso Italia uses plan 1 but is capped at €5 a day, and Via del Tritone is also capped at €5 a day. Most short-stay spaces outside the Blu Area use plan 2.

How to pay. Coins or a bank card at the meter, a scratch card (Gratta e Sosta) from a tobacconist, or the EasyPark, Telepass Pyng+, MooneyGo or GoGoGe app. With a paper ticket, leave it visible on the dashboard. In Isole Azzurre, a missing ticket brings a Genova Parcheggi penalty notice, which rises to €18 plus costs if not paid within 10 days.

Where to Park for Free

  • Evenings and Sundays: the main Blu Area paid period is 8:00–20:00 on weekdays, so outside it most blue spaces are free unless a sign says otherwise.
  • Piastra di Genova Est: the first 24 hours are free, then €5 a day.
  • Fleming (Molassana): free on weekdays from 7:00 to 21:00.
  • Motorcycles: more than 4,000 free motorcycle spaces in the Blu Area zones.

White-line spaces are free, but in central Genoa they are rare and Genova Parcheggi publishes no map of them, so we do not name streets.

Genoa Airport (GOA) Parking

Genoa Airport has three official car parks: P1 right in front of the terminal (about 2 minutes on foot), P2 about 5 minutes away, and PMoto for motorcycles inside P1. The airport sells parking online and its parking page shows no walk-up tariff, so we do not quote one: check the price for your dates on airport.genova.it before you go.
