Garagem Ibéria sits on Rua de Ceuta, three minutes' walk from Avenida dos Aliados and São Bento station, with rates around EUR 1.50 per hour and EUR 12 to 15 per day (USD 13 to 16). It is a small independent garage — not Saba, not Empark — with one of the lowest day rates inside the historic centre and a height limit of 1.90 m that rules out vans. The trade-off: no online booking, cash and card accepted at exit only, and a 4.0 Google Maps rating built on convenience rather than service polish. This guide compares Garagem Ibéria with the bigger central garages (Saba Cardosas, Trindade, Casa da Música), shows you when it is the smartest choice, and covers Porto's wider parking ecosystem (LEZ camera fines, blue-zone hours, Park & Ride options) so you do not pay for the wrong type of spot.

Understanding parking zones in Porto

Porto runs a numbered zone system (I to IV) managed by Câmara Municipal do Porto and Empark / Saba in partnership. Lines on the kerb tell you what you are looking at: blue is paid, white is free, yellow is no-stopping, green is residents-only. Sundays, public holidays and weekday evenings after 19:00 are free everywhere on the street.

Zone IVOuter ringaround EUR 0.80/h (USD 0.87)10 hMon-Fri 09:00-19:00
Common trap: The Porto LEZ (Zona de Emissões Reduzidas) and the parking blue zones are different systems. The LEZ controls which cars can enter the historic core (cameras automatically fine pre-2015 diesel and pre-2011 petrol, EUR 68 / USD 74). Almost every modern rental car is Euro 5 or Euro 6 and clears the LEZ — but always verify with your rental company before driving toward Garagem Ibéria.

Off-street garages run their own clocks. Garagem Ibéria is open 24/7 with a height limit of 1.90 m, no overnight surcharge and entry / exit by ticket. The price ladder is per hour, not per fraction, so a 1-hour-15-minute stop pays for two hours.

Garagem Ibéria vs the alternatives

Five practical options when you want to park near São Bento, Aliados, or Bolhão. Garagem Ibéria leads on day rate; the others lead on different criteria.

Garagem IbériaCheapest day rate

Independent garage on Rua de Ceuta, 250 m from São Bento metro and railway station. Around EUR 12 to 15 per day, no online booking, cash or card on exit. Three minutes downhill walk to Praça da Liberdade. Compact bays — height limit 1.90 m, length around 4.5 m — so most economy and compact rentals fit fine but mid-size SUVs and seven-seat MPVs do not. Google Maps 4.0/5.

EUR 1.50/h · EUR 12-15/day (USD 13-16)Rua de Ceuta 47, 4050-191 Porto
Saba CardosasBest location

The most central paid garage in Porto: 30 seconds from Avenida dos Aliados, directly under the Pestana Porto Cardosas hotel. Modern, well-lit, security cameras, accepts ViaT transponder. Reservable on Parclick — booking online drops the EUR 25 walk-in day rate by 30 to 40 percent. Best when you want zero walking time to the city centre.

EUR 1.80/h · EUR 22-25/day walk-in (USD 24-27)Rua das Cardosas 81, 4050-160 Porto
Trindade (Câmara Municipal)Best public option

The cheapest public-sector garage in central Porto, run by the city. Sits directly under Trindade metro (interchange of all six lines), so even when full upstairs the metro takes you anywhere in the city in 5 minutes. CCTV. First-come basis — fills before 09:30 on weekdays.

iPark Bonjardim / BolhãoBolhão area

2023-built underground garage by the renovated Bolhão market and Rua de Santa Catarina. 495 spaces, app-based entry by QR code, plenty of EV chargers. Better than Garagem Ibéria if your day plan is centred on Bolhão, Santa Catarina or Praça da Batalha rather than Aliados or São Bento.

around EUR 1.50/h · EUR 15/day (USD 16)Rua do Bonjardim 282, Porto
Park & Ride Estádio do DragãoCheapest combined option

EMPARK-run park-and-ride at the metro terminus. Combined rate of EUR 1.50 per day with an Andante 24-hour metro pass takes you from car to Trindade or Aliados in 8 minutes on lines A, B, E or F. The single best option if you arrive in Porto by motorway and only need a base for the day.

around EUR 1.50/day with Andante (USD 1.65)Estação Estádio do Dragão, 4350-415 Porto
Google Maps ratings (May 2026): Saba Cardosas 4.1/5; Garagem Ibéria 4.0/5; iPark Bonjardim 4.2/5; Trindade 4.0/5; Estádio do Dragão P+R 4.0/5. None has a stand-out reputation problem; all are functional centre options.
Daily rate ladder: Estádio do Dragão P+R EUR 1.50 (USD 1.65); Trindade EUR 12-15 (USD 13-16); Garagem Ibéria EUR 12-15 (USD 13-16); iPark Bonjardim EUR 15 (USD 16); Saba Cardosas EUR 22-25 walk-in / EUR 14-17 reserved (USD 24-27 walk-in / USD 15-18 reserved).
Covered vs open: Garagem Ibéria, Saba Cardosas, Trindade and iPark Bonjardim are all covered with security cameras. Estádio do Dragão is partly open-air. In Porto's frequent winter rain, covered storage is worth the extra euros if you have luggage to load.
Book a parking spot in advance: We use Parclick to reserve central Porto garages like Saba Cardosas. Garagem Ibéria does not accept online bookings, but if it is full the next-best alternative is Saba Cardosas reserved on Parclick — typical savings 30 to 40 percent versus walk-in.

Free street parking near Garagem Ibéria

None inside Zone I — the area around Garagem Ibéria is metered all weekday daytime. Walk a little and free options open up.

Boavista (after Avenida da Boavista no. 1500)

White-line parking thins past number 1500 going west. Worth the 20-minute walk only if Garagem Ibéria and the alternatives are full. Casa da Música metro is closer to here than the centre.

Vila Nova de Gaia (south bank)

Free street parking around Sandeman, Cálem and Graham's wine cellars on the Gaia hillside. Walk over Dom Luís I bridge in 5 minutes and you arrive at Ribeira. The view crossing the bridge is the best sightseeing of the trip — better than driving in.

Foz do Douro (Avenida do Brasil)

White-line parking along the Atlantic seafront and parallel residential streets. Bus 500 to Aliados in about 25 minutes. Best if your itinerary mixes beach and centre.

Tip: If Garagem Ibéria is full and you want to stay close, walk 600 m east to Trindade. The municipal garage there is the same price band but four times bigger. Set your phone reminder for two hours so you do not overrun the centre blue zone if you have to park on the street as a backup.

Paying for parking (apps and meters)

Garagem Ibéria itself accepts cash or card at the exit barrier. The street meters and other garages have shifted heavily to apps since 2023.

Telpark — official Porto app

Telpark is the official app of EPorto and STCP Serviços. Two-minute sign-up with a card. Start and stop sessions in one tap; you can extend time without returning to the car. Service fee around EUR 0.15 per session. Covers all on-street paid parking and several garages including Saba Cardosas and Casa da Música.

Already have a Via Verde transponder? The Via Verde Estacionar app extends Via Verde's number-plate recognition to many city garages. Saba Cardosas, Casa da Música and the Estádio do Dragão P+R all support contactless entry and exit if your rental car has the toll device.

EasyPark — pan-European alternative

EasyPark covers Porto street parking and many garages. The big advantage: same account works in 25-plus countries, useful if you started your road trip in Madrid or Bordeaux. Service fee around 15 percent of the ticket. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay all accepted.

Coin meters and the ePark exception

Street meters take EUR 0.10 to EUR 2 coins and contactless cards. The 2-hour ceiling in Zone I (where Garagem Ibéria sits) is enforced — a second consecutive ticket is invalid and you get a EUR 30 fine. Note: ePark is the Lisbon app and does not work in Porto. Stay on Telpark or EasyPark.

Parking by area

Avenida dos Aliados (3 minutes from Garagem Ibéria)

Porto's main civic boulevard. No tourist street parking — both sides are reserved. From Garagem Ibéria, walk down Rua de Ceuta straight to Praça da Liberdade in three minutes. The Câmara Municipal palace, McDonald's Imperial (one of Europe's grandest fast-food interiors), and Livraria Lello (8 minutes uphill) are all within easy walking distance.

São Bento railway station and Sé

São Bento is 250 m from Garagem Ibéria, with the famous azulejo-tiled atrium. Walking to the cathedral (Sé) climbs through the medieval Barredo on cobbled steps — five minutes uphill, ten with kids. No street parking anywhere on the climb. From Garagem Ibéria, this is the best base for walking the historic core.

Bolhão market and Rua de Santa Catarina

Renovated Mercado do Bolhão sits 600 m east of Garagem Ibéria. If your day plan is centred here, iPark Bonjardim is closer. From Garagem Ibéria, the walk takes 8 minutes through Rua Sá da Bandeira.

Ribeira (UNESCO riverside)

Cobbled, stepped, photogenic, and entirely impractical to drive into. Park at Garagem Ibéria, walk 12 minutes downhill via Rua Mouzinho da Silveira. The funicular dos Guindais (EUR 2.50 / USD 2.70) saves the climb back up if your knees complain.

Casa da Música and Boavista

Different neighbourhood from Garagem Ibéria. If your hotel or restaurant is here, switch to Saba Casa da Música (EUR 12-15 / USD 13-16 per day) — the centre walk-down is 20 minutes; the metro takes 4 minutes from Casa da Música to Trindade.

Tourist trap: Some “private” parking notices (with a fake fine number on a piece of paper under your wiper) are placed by unaffiliated companies on streets near tourist sites. Portuguese courts have ruled these notices unenforceable. Do not pay them, but keep them as evidence — and never accept a “guard” at the curb who waves you into a free space and demands EUR 5 to “watch the car.” Genuine street parking is metered or free, period.

Tips

  • Verify your rental car is Euro 5 or Euro 6 before driving toward Garagem Ibéria — the LEZ camera fine is automatic
  • Confirm vehicle dimensions: Garagem Ibéria limits height to 1.90 m and length to around 4.5 m
  • Have cash and card both ready — Garagem Ibéria has no online booking and the exit barrier accepts both
  • Use Telpark for street parking; ePark from Lisbon does not work in Porto
  • If you arrive after 19:00, street parking is free; weekends after Saturday 16:00 also free
  • Use Estádio do Dragão Park & Ride if you are a day-tripper from outside Porto
  • Do not try to drive into Ribeira or Cedofeita — narrow one-ways and LEZ cameras
  • Do not park on yellow lines, even briefly — EUR 60 fine
  • Do not pay informal “watchers” more than EUR 1-2 if at all
  • Do not stretch beyond 2 hours in Zone I street parking — the second ticket is invalid
  • Do not leave valuables in the car at any street parking, especially Foz at night
  • Do not assume Garagem Ibéria has space at peak times — book Saba Cardosas on Parclick as a backup

2026 update

Porto's LEZ has been camera-enforced since 2024 inside the historic core (boundaries: Calçada de Monchique, Rua da Bandeirinha, Largo do Viriato, Cedofeita and Miguel Bombarda). The 2026 boundary remains unchanged but the city expects to add more residential 30 km/h zones in 2026, increasing the legal risk of casual driving. Garagem Ibéria has not announced rate changes for 2026; Saba and iPark group rates rose roughly 5 percent in January. Telpark added Apple Pay and Google Pay at all on-street meters in March 2026 — older meters that only took coins have been replaced.

Frequently asked questions

Garagem Ibéria is at Rua de Ceuta 47, 4050-191 Porto, three minutes' walk from Avenida dos Aliados and 250 m from São Bento railway and metro station. The entrance sits at street level on Rua de Ceuta with clear signage. From the south on the A1 motorway, take exit “Porto / Boavista”, then follow signs for Aliados / Centro. Once you are on Rua de Ceuta, the garage is on the right-hand side as you head downhill toward the river.

Around EUR 12 to 15 (USD 13 to 16) per day in 2026, with hourly rate around EUR 1.50 (USD 1.65) per hour. Pricing is per started hour, not per fraction, so a 1-hour-15-minute stay pays for two hours. The exact day cap may vary by season — check with the attendant on entry. Both cash and card accepted at the exit barrier; there is no online booking option, so arrive early on busy weekends.

Yes — fully covered indoor garage with security cameras and 24/7 access. The bays are compact: height limit 1.90 m and length around 4.5 m, which excludes vans and most seven-seat MPVs. Mid-size SUVs (Volkswagen Tiguan, Peugeot 3008) fit in standard bays. The Google Maps rating is 4.0/5 with reviews praising the price and central location, while a few mention tight manoeuvring. If your rental is over 1.90 m tall, switch to Saba Cardosas or Trindade.

No. Garagem Ibéria does not appear on Parclick, ParkVia, or any major reservation platform — entry is first-come, first-served. If you want a guaranteed central spot you can book in advance, use Saba Cardosas on Parclick (typically 30 to 40 percent cheaper than walk-in) or iPark Bonjardim via the iPark app. Both are within 600 m of Garagem Ibéria.

Confirm your car meets Euro 5 (diesel post-2015) or Euro 4 (petrol post-2011) emission standards before driving into the historic centre. Most rental fleets are post-2018, so the LEZ does not apply, but always ask the rental company in writing. If you drive a non-conformant car into the LEZ, automated cameras issue a EUR 68 (USD 74) fine plus the rental company adds an admin fee of EUR 30 to 50.

Garagem Ibéria is independent, smaller, cheaper (EUR 12-15 / USD 13-16 day), no online booking, height limited to 1.90 m. Saba Cardosas is corporate, larger, more expensive (EUR 22-25 / USD 24-27 walk-in but reservable on Parclick at EUR 14-17 / USD 15-18), accepts the ViaT transponder, and located 30 seconds from Aliados. Pick Garagem Ibéria for cheapest day rate; pick Saba Cardosas for advance booking and corporate-grade service.

Before you park — quick checklist

  • Telpark or EasyPark app installed if you may also need street parking
  • Rental car confirmed Euro 5 or Euro 6 (LEZ-clear)
  • Vehicle height under 1.90 m and length under 4.5 m for Garagem Ibéria
  • Cash backup in case the card reader at the exit fails
  • Photo of the time-stamped ticket as proof in case of dispute
  • Backup plan: Saba Cardosas reserved on Parclick if Ibéria is full
