Record Go blocks an excess deposit on your credit card; the desk will push full cover to reduce it. A cheaper route is stand-alone excess insurance (€4–7/day) bought before travel, but expect the hold regardless. Porto's toll picture has changed in stages: the ex-SCUT motorways lost their tolls (A24 in January 2025, A25 in January 2026) and the northern A28 sections towards Viana do Castelo are free, but the A28 Porto–Póvoa de Varzim stretch is still tolled.
