Do you need a car? Not for Rotterdam itself: the metro, trams and water taxis cover the city, and parking in the centre is expensive. A car pays off for Kinderdijk, the Zeeland coast or touring several Dutch towns in one trip. Rotterdam The Hague Airport is on the north edge of the city: compare car rental at Rotterdam Airport on DiscoverCars, or see our guides to parking near Amsterdam Centraal and parking in Utrecht.
Rotterdam has three street tariffs: €6.42 an hour in the centre, €3.20 in the ring of districts around it and €2.24 in the outer districts. Street parking is paid until 23:00, and in the centre until 1:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The city’s own car parks (stadsgarages, green sign with a white P) are cheaper than the street, and the park-and-ride sites on the edge of the city are free if you travel on by metro, tram or bus.

What a full day in Rotterdam costs
Calculated from the official 2026 tariffs, 21 October 2026
The tariff depends on the area: the high tariff (€6.42 an hour) covers the city centre, the middle tariff (€3.20) the districts around it, and the low tariff (€2.24) the outer districts. Paid hours vary by street. In the centre streets listed in the 2026 tariff decision (for example around Blekerhof) you pay Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 23:00, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00, and Sunday from 12:00 to 23:00; the meter and the city’s parking map show the exact times.
How to pay. With a parking app from one of the licensed providers, or with a debit or credit card at the meter. The meter gives no ticket: enforcement cars scan number plates, so enter your plate correctly. On football match and event days the high tariff also applies in zone 900 around De Kuip stadium.

Rotterdam has no environmental zone for passenger cars in 2026, so petrol and diesel cars of any age, Dutch or foreign, may drive into the centre. The national register lists only Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague and Utrecht with a zone for diesel cars. Rotterdam’s zero-emission zone concerns vans and lorries for city logistics, not private cars.
Several other holidays (Easter Monday, King’s Day, Liberation Day, Ascension Day and others) follow the Sunday hours. We do not name free streets, because paid parking is being extended step by step to more districts outside the ring.
