Green Motion is an eco-focused budget brand at Lisbon Airport: off-airport with a shuttle, cheap headline rates, and a DiscoverCars rating of 8/10. The cars and price can be good, but the consistent warning across Green Motion's ~31,000 Trustpilot reviews is the deposit: large holds (renters report around £1,500 blocked for up to a month) with refunds quoted at 15–30 days after drop-off, plus occasional trouble reaching the shuttle line on arrival. Workable if you pre-book full cover, have a high-limit credit card and can wait on the refund – otherwise an in-airport major is less stressful.

Green Motion is off-airport: you call or meet the shuttle to reach the depot. Some renters report difficulty reaching the shuttle line on arrival (a few ended up taking a taxi), so save the phone number and allow extra time.
DiscoverCars 8/10 and decent cars, but expect a large hold (~£1,500) and a refund quoted at 15–30 days. Pre-book excess cover, document the car and fuel, and keep the shuttle number handy.
If you would rather skip the shuttle and big hold, Alamo (8/10) is in-airport with newer cars and faster refunds.
Trustpilot ~1.6/5 with upsell and damage complaints. Among the budget brands, Green Motion at least rates 8/10 on verified rentals.

/10, verified-rental ratings
The deposit is the headline risk with Green Motion. Basic cover leaves a large excess blocked (renters cite ~£1,500), and refunds are quoted at 15–30 days – far slower than in-airport majors. Pre-book stand-alone excess insurance (€4–7/day) for cheaper protection, bring a high-limit credit card, and photograph the car and fuel gauge.
From Lisbon you meet tolls on the bridges and motorways: the Ponte 25 de Abril charges southbound only, the Ponte Vasco da Gama and the A5 to Cascais (about €1.50, up to ~€3 end-to-end) are tolled, and the A1/A2 use Via Verde gantries; rentals add a €25–50 admin fee unless you take the transponder. Central Lisbon also has a ZER low-emission zone (Baixa/Avenida/Chiado) restricting older cars – rental fleets are new, so you are fine. Fuel in May 2026 is about €1.92/L petrol and ~€2.05/L diesel; supermarket pumps cheapest.
If a long hold on your card is a problem, choose an in-airport major.
Some renters could not reach the line on arrival – have it ready.
Sintra, Cascais, the Arrábida coast and Évora are easy day trips. Central Lisbon is walkable with a ZER low-emission zone, so collecting the car on departure day is common.
Off-airport – you reach the depot by shuttle. Save the shuttle phone number, as some renters report trouble reaching the line on arrival.
Large – renters report around £1,500 blocked on a credit card, with refunds quoted at 15–30 days after drop-off. Bring a credit card with enough headroom and be prepared to wait on the refund.
Its DiscoverCars verified-rental score is 8/10 and cars are generally fine, but the brand’s Trustpilot record (over its ~31,000 reviews) is mixed, dominated by deposit and refund complaints.
Pre-book stand-alone excess insurance, photograph the car and fuel gauge at pickup and return, keep all paperwork, and chase any delayed refund in writing.
Bridges and the A5/A1/A2 are tolled (rentals add a €25–50 admin fee unless you take the transponder). The central ZER restricts older cars, but new rental cars are unaffected.
If the deposit hold or shuttle worries you, yes – Alamo or Budget (both 8/10, in-airport) are smoother for a small premium.
