Parking in Bilbao: OTA Zones, Guggenheim & Casco Viejo 2026

Bilbao's OTA street system is stricter than most Spanish cities – but also more generous: regulated Monday–Friday 9:00–20:00 straight through and Saturday mornings, with up to 3 hours allowed in the blue and green visitor sectors. The Casco Viejo is pedestrian, the Guggenheim has its own garage cluster, and evenings/Sundays are free. Here's the 2026 plan.

OTA at a Glance

DetailValue
HoursMon–Fri 9:00–20:00 (no lunch break in the intensive zone), Sat 9:00–14:00
Visitor limitUp to 3 hours in blue/green sectors
ColoursBlue = rotation visitors; green = residents priority (visitors pay more, shorter)
FreeEvenings after 20:00, Sat pm, Sundays & holidays

Unlike Castile, Bilbao's OTA runs through lunch in the central intensive zone, so don't count on the 14:00 siesta loophole. Meters and the city's parking apps both work; green-marked bays prioritise residents – read the sign before assuming.

Where to Park for What

  • Guggenheim: the museum-area garages (Pío Baroja/Euskalduna side) – surface OTA fills by 10:00
  • Casco Viejo (old town): pedestrian – use the Arenal or Ribera-side garages and cross the bridge
  • Abando/Gran Vía shopping: blue bays work for ≤3h; garages under Plaza Indautxu for longer
  • Free long stays: across the river in Deusto or up in residential Begoña, then metro in
Metro trick: Bilbao's metro is excellent – park free near a suburban stop (Leioa, Etxebarri) and ride in for a couple of euros if you're staying all day.
San Mamés match days: Athletic home games swallow every bay within a kilometre – garage early or come by metro.

Frequently Asked Questions

Up to 3 hours in the blue and green visitor sectors during OTA hours (Mon–Fri 9–20, Sat 9–14). After that, move or use a garage.

Not in the central intensive zone – OTA runs straight 9:00–20:00 weekdays there, unlike many Spanish cities.

The garages on the museum/Euskalduna side – surface spots evaporate by mid-morning. It's a pleasant riverside walk from anywhere central anyway.

No – the old town is pedestrian. Park at the Arenal edge or across the river and walk in over the bridge.

Evenings after 20:00, Saturday afternoons, Sundays and holidays – plus suburban streets near metro stops at any time.
